Dear Families,

This summer, we made an investment in indoor and outdoor recess equipment for our students. Approximately $8,000 was used to refresh games and equipment, recognizing that recess plays a vital role in a child's development and health. Recess offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Social and emotional learning: Children develop important communication skills through peer interaction.
  • Physical activity: It provides the necessary exercise for growing bodies.
  • Academic benefits: Recess helps improve attention and concentration in the classroom.
  • Brain function: It enhances cognitive abilities and mood.
  • Sleep improvement: Regular breaks can lead to better sleep patterns.
  • Vitamin D: Outdoor play ensures exposure to sunlight, essential for brain development.
  • Negotiation skills: Children learn valuable negotiation skills that benefit them in various settings.
  • Classroom behavior: Recess contributes to better behavior and focus in class.

The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes that recess is "crucial and necessary" for development, and the Centers for Disease Control recommends at least 20 minutes of daily recess in elementary schools. At Truesdell, we prioritize quality recess options, and it is essential that recess is never denied as punishment. If your child loses recess privileges, please reach out to an administrator immediately. Thank you for your continued support in creating a positive environment for our students to learn and grow.

Best Regards,
Principal Foster

Estimadas Familias,

Atentamente,
Directora Foster
