We are in our last week of State Assessments! YAY!

Students will test just two days this week April 15th and 16th will be our Math State Assessments.

On Monday April 14th I will pull kids for any Science and ELA make-ups they might have, I will pull them again on Thursday the 17th if they have multiple make-ups to do. Our testing window closes on April 25th so it is extremely important that students communicate if they are going to be gone on a testing day so I can make accommodations for them to test at a different time. Thanks!

At home you can help your students be ready to do their best by making sure they get a good nights sleep and eat a hearty breakfast to fuel their brains. Encourage your students to take their time on their test and give their best efforts. We will be rewarding students throughout our testing season when we catch them taking their time and giving their best efforts!

8th Grade Parents,

Our Job Shadow Day is just one week away - next Thursday, April 17th, from 9:00–11:00 AM!

Today during advisory, students spent time preparing thoughtful questions for their host, reviewing appropriate dress expectations, and discussing professional etiquette to help them feel confident and ready for the experience.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at payton.andrews@usd340.org.

We’re excited for a great morning of career exploration!

There is no proven safe dose of caffeine for kids. Pediatricians advise against energy drinks for children and teens. Many caffeine/energy drinks state on the can, not for anyone under 18.

Energy drinks are not allowed in Middle School.

According to the AACAP, Some problems from long term use include:

  • Sleep problems (difficulty falling asleep and poor sleep)
  • Irritability and mood problems
  • Increased stress hormone levels
  • Needing higher doses of caffeine to achieve the desired effect
  • Cravings and withdrawal symptoms (including tiredness, headaches, mood changes, and problems concentrating) when everyday caffeine is stopped
  • Increased risk of panic, anger, violence, risk-taking, and substance use problems
  • Increased sugar intake when using sugary caffeinated products
  • More difficulty quitting other substances (such as nicotine) and limiting alcohol use when combined with caffeine

Short term use includes symptoms such as headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, and trouble sleeping. Visit with your medical provider if you have additional concerns regarding your child's caffeine intake.

Lakeside Singers to Perform National Anthem at the Royals Game

Our very own JWHS Lakeside Singers have been selected to perform the National Anthem at a Kansas City Royals game! We will be performing the National Anthem on May 28th when the Royals take on the Cincinnati Reds at Kaufmann Stadium. This is very exciting news, but now we need YOUR help!

In order to get the green light from the Royals, we need to sell 200 tickets. Luckily, they have given us a discounted price. Tickets start at just $20! I have attached a link at the bottom of this email where you can purchase tickets for the game. Tickets should be ordered through this link in order to "count" towards our 200-ticket goal. Here's the kicker! We need to have the required 200 tickets sold by April 18th!

Share the link with family and friends, and let's make sure we get these kids the audience that they deserve!
