Message from the Principal
Safety is an important and a constant topic at Cornwall School. We talk about safe ways to move, playing safely at recess, and how to be safe in an emergency. Drills are one way that we practice being, and we have done them a variety of ways. Last year, when we practiced "relocating" to the Town Hall, we trekked across a field, past a big tree, through a low spot, and on to the Town Hall lawn. This year, we practiced a different way. Because what would we do if the snow was so deep that the whole school couldn't tromp across the field? Or, hypothetically, if the grass was full of ticks? We would take the road, which means, we need to practice that!
So we did. I'm deeply grateful to the Cornwall Fire Department, especially Raph Worrick and Conner Stinson, plus his trusty helper, for helping us to keep kids safe crossing the road and traversing Route 30 on the way to and from Town Hall. Cornwall Town Clerk Laura Fetterolf's flexibility and problem-solving were so helpful. And I loved running into Cornwall parents and other Cornwallians at the Town Hall as we prepared to file our kinders and first graders in! It takes a village.
With gratitude,
Nadya

Reminders and Useful Bits
What to bring to school
- water bottle
- snack
- sturdy outdoor shoes - so we can run around
- indoor shoes - so we don't track grass and mud onto our "rug spots"
- a set of dry clothes
- layers (we sometimes play outside even when it's raining!)
What to leave at home
Please help your child remember that these are things we do not bring to school:
- gum and candy
- toys
- individual sports equipment (for example, if I have my own lacrosse stick, I don't bring it to recess)
Snapshots from Cornwall School
On Tuesday, May 26, six Cornwall 5th grade students traveled to the Mini-Ilsley Library in Middlebury and participated in the Golden Dome Challenge. This is an annual quiz bowl giving ACSD 4-8th grade students a chance to answer trivia questions about the books from this year's Golden Dome Book Award list. Each student read at least 8 of the books on the list, with some students reading significantly more. Our students totally rose to the "Challenge" and participated with collaboration and enthusiasm! Ilsley 's Children's Librarian, Tricia Allen, facilitated the event. Each participant received a new book from next year's Golden Dome Book List in recognition of their commitment to reading and literacy. Yea for reading!
Ways to help Cornwall School
Beach toys, baseballs and mitts
We are replenishing our playground options. If you have gently used beach toys for the sandbox, baseball mitts or baseballs to donate, we'll take 'em!
Gently used shoes and clothes needed!
- Pants & Shorts - size 8-10, 10-12, and 14
- Sneakers ANY size!
Laundry!
We have many shared winter items that have taken a beating this mud season. If laundry is your thing, grab a bag from the school, wash and dry it, return (ideally in a clean bag) and we will store it until next winter! Or until the next snowfall!
