Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
Schedules are Available on Home Access
If you have not yet checked Home Access, please do so. Student schedules are now available. If you need assistance logging in, please follow the directions attached below.
If you are still having trouble accessing Home Access, it may be because you have not yet completed the reenrollment process. Please check your email for a message requesting that you update or confirm your contact information through the reenrollment process. These emails were sent on Thursday, August 6. Once you complete the reenrollment process, you should be able to log in to Home Access and view your student’s schedule.
Schedule Updates
This year, Ms. Mays, our Life and Future Readiness teacher, and Ms. Palacios, our Spanish teacher, will travel to classrooms using carts. At this time, classroom numbers are not listed on student schedules. Room assignments will be determined by staff on Monday afternoon, and room numbers will be added to schedules by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 25.
If your student receives additional support through classes such as Executive Functioning, Social Skills, or Reading Support with our reading specialist, you may notice that these classes take the place of an elective or are scheduled during Periods 3 or 8, which are our iMTSS periods.
You will also notice two MTSS blocks on your student’s schedule. This is intentional. We have moved away from the previous ELA and Math double-block model and are using those additional periods for dedicated iMTSS (Integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports) time. During these periods, staff will work with students to provide targeted support, extension, and enrichment based on individual student needs and team recommendations.
Middle School Teams
You will also notice that we have returned to a team structure at the middle school level. There will be three teams in 6th grade, three teams in 7th grade, and two teams in 8th grade.
Each team consists of five teachers: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Special Education. We are excited to return to this model because it provides students and staff with a consistent group of teachers, allowing us to build strong relationships and provide a more connected school experience.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year filled with learning, achievement, and growth!
Message for Our Walkers
We know that we have many students that walk to and from school at Scott Middle School. If your student plans to walk home, we need to have it in writing.
Please send your student to school with a signed note stating that they have permission to walk and the dates listed. You may write "for the 2026-2027" school year if that is applicable.
You may also send an email to Ms. Russum at russuma@casdschools.org or scattendance@casdschools.org stating the same thing if that is easier.
We will not permit students to walk home without your written permission.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
As the first day approaches, I want to make sure I outline our procedures for arrival and dismissal.
Arrival: Busses will begin to arrive at 7:10 and drop off students. Busses pull onto Olive Street and let students out in front of the school. Students will have the option to take a "Grab and Go" breakfast if they wish or head straight to advisory.
6th Grade Students will enter the door by the Auditorium and head up to the third floor where their breakfast cart will be.
7th Grade Students will enter the main door and use the stairs there to head up to the second floor. If they would like a breakfast, there will be a cart on the main first floor for them to stop at before heading up.
8th Grade Students will enter the door by the Gym and head to their first period (Which will be a Related Arts class). If they would like a breakfast, there will be a cart on the main first floor for them to stop at before heading on their way.
If you plan to drop your student off, you do not need to drop them off until 7:15. You will pull onto Olive Street and let your student out in front of the school. Please be aware of cars behind you and pull up as far as you can. Also, please do not pull around busses and cars. We want everyone to stay safe. Announcements start at 7:20, with our school day starting at 7:25.
Dismissal: At 2:08 our dismissal starts. We will begin by sending our walkers out the cafeteria doors at the back of our building onto Sterling Street. Then our Parent Pickup will be called to the cafeteria. Parent Pick Up students will be dismissed to Sterling Street. Mrs. Hamilton or Ms. Diehl will be on Sterling Street asking you who your student is. To speed up this process, we would love if you could write your student's first and last on a piece of paper that we will be able to read from your car. Please do not use Olive Street on your way to Sterling Street as we will be dismissing busses at the same time.
Our busses will be parked outside of the front of our school on Olive Street. We will be dismissing students by their busses. We call 2 busses at a time. Please remind your students to listen for their bus.
I appreciate your patience as we navigate through these procedures at the beginning of the school year. From experience, it does take a couple weeks to get things running smoothly.
First Day of School
With two weeks left before the first day of school, I am sure our new students (and some of our returning students) are starting to feel anxious. Please assure your student(s) that they will not need to know their schedule or how to get around our building. We will be focusing on meeting everyone, helping them feel welcome, and getting to know our building and expectations as a school community the first few days (and weeks) of school.
The first day of school students will head to their 1st period class. If your student knows their first period teacher, it will be helpful, but if they do not, we will have many staff members out front of the building with a list to help them. Once inside the building, we will have staff available to support any students that need help getting to their first class. Throughout the day, teachers will support students by going over schedules, touring the building, practicing lockers, and reviewing expectations.
Mrs. Lamothe and Mr. Dower will be speaking to the different grades in the auditorium during the morning to set the year off in the right direction.
I share this with you so you can assure your student they will not have to know their way around Scott or know their schedule on the first day of school.

Suggested School Supplies
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to ensure that all students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. Below is a recommended supply list for middle school students. It is also located on our website.
Please label your child’s items when possible, especially personal belongings. We encourage families to check supplies quarterly and restock as needed. If your family needs assistance with supplies, please reach out to our main office—we're here to help.
We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!

Cell Phones Should be "Off and Away all Day"
As many of you know, our cell phone policy at Scott is “Off and Away.” In alignment with this policy, we will continue to have cell phone lockers in our classrooms this year.
These lockers will serve as a supportive tool to help students meet the expectation of keeping cell phones off and out of sight during the school day. There is extensive research highlighting the negative impact of cell phone use on student learning, and our goal is to ensure every student is positioned to achieve their full academic potential.
Here’s how it will work:
Students will have multiple opportunities to have their cell phones put away. They may lock them away in their own lockers or put them away in their backpacks. Also, each classroom will have a designated cell phone locker. If students are using the classroom lockers, they will be expected to place their phones in the locker upon entering class and retrieve them as they leave.
If a student is found using their phone during class, a consequence will be assigned. Continued issues may result in more serious consequences, such as requiring the phone to be stored in the main office locker at the start of the day and picked up at dismissal.
We wanted to share this information with you in advance so you can help your student prepare for expectations.
We understand that middle school students often believe they can use their phones during the day, but at Scott, we’re committed to the idea that “We enter to learn and leave to achieve.” Cell phones can be a significant distraction, and this system is one way we are setting our students up for success—both academically and socially.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create an environment focused on learning and growth.

Summer Reading Assignment
Middle School students are expected to read a book over the summer. Students should read a novel and complete either the assignment for a fiction or nonfiction book, based on their selection. Many of the book selections are available through the MackinLibrary app which can found on their Clever pages of their school Chromebooks.
This summer assignment will count as a homework grade for their ELA classes in September. Their ELA teachers may provide a test and/or project connected to the summer reading. Any support you may offer your student in completing this task would be greatly appreciated.
