May is Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Month
Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week May 3rd - 9th “Shine a Light on Mental Health”
May is Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Month, with the day of acceptance recognized this year on May 7th. Why shift from just awareness to acceptance? Awareness can be passive, Acceptance inspires action! (asking for help, seeking treatment , offering support etc.) Awareness means you know it exist, acceptance means you make a personal connection and take steps to learn more. Shifting from just awareness to acceptance young people say changes the way they feel and think about themselves. We know awareness is not enough. Each of us must take action to create lasting change. Every action - supporting a friend or loved one, practicing self-care, modeling wellness for others, or reaching out for help – MATTERS
“How can you help Shine a Light on Mental Health and take action?”
On May 7th, we invite you to wear green which is the mental health awareness color, to show your support and acceptance of children’s mental health. Sign up for a training or attend an event during the month. Share resources and support someone in need. There are so many ways to get and stay involved. If you are interested in more information on upcoming events/trainings and supports, please request to join our email distribution list: Systemofcare@co.delaware.pa.us

NJM “Share the Keys”
The “Share the Keys” program empowers families with information, resources and support that has
been proven to reduce teen driver crash risks. We discuss how Parental involvement during the
Graduated Drivers Licensing process has a significant impact on teen driver safety.
Research studies conducted by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Center for Injury Research and Prevention, examined the impact parenting styles had on teen driver safety. They found that teens
whose parents set rules and monitor their driving activities in a helpful, supportive way, are half as likely to be involved in a crash.
“STK” has been recognized by the national Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) as a best
practice in teen driver safety and has proven to effectively reduce teen driver crashes and motor vehicle violations.
A research study conducted by Kean University in New Jersey revealed that six months to a year after participating in “STK”, 92% of teens had not been involved in a crash and 94% had not received a motor vehicle violation.
The “STK” program is a free 60-minute interactive orientation presented Live/Online for parents and
their teen drivers and includes a Resource Guide, Share The Keys Resource Guide - Pennsylvania

2025 is the 50th anniversary of the Earned Income Tax Credit
The Earned Income Tax Credit has strengthened American working families for 50 years. EITC Awareness Day is Friday, January 31st.
We estimate that four out of five workers claim the EITC, which means millions of eligible taxpayers are putting EITC dollars to work for them. This tax credit puts more money into local economies and helps cover the costs of food, child care, gas, and more.
As of December 2024, more than 23 million workers and families received about $64 billion in EITC. The average amount of EITC received nationwide in tax year 2023 was about $2,743.
However, there are still millions of people not taking advantage of this valuable credit. Help IRS reach the workers who qualify but miss out on thousands of dollars every year without the EITC. Let them know about the credit and motivate them to join the four out of five people who file and claim the credit. This includes workers who are:
- Living in rural areas
- Self-employed
- Receiving certain disability pensions or have children with disabilities.
- Without a qualifying child
- Not proficient in English
- Grandparents raising their grandchildren.
- Recently divorced, unemployed or experienced other changes to their marital, financial, or parental status
Please share these electronic resources with your members, clients, customers, and community.

2025 GENE CAPALDI LENS ON LITTER PHOTO CONTEST
As Spring approaches and we will be spending more time outdoors, we wanted to let you know about an opportunity for your students, teachers and parents.
Since 1984, PRC has held an annual Lens on Litter Photo Contest, not to glorify litter but to bring attention to the litter problem in communities across Pennsylvania. Exposure leads to prevention!
Participants from across the state have submitted thousands of photos over the years. Contestants are eligible for monetary prizes up to $500. Contest deadline is October 31, 2025.
Amateur students (through 12th grade) and adults are asked to submit photos of unusual or unsightly litter in their Pennsylvania communities by the October 31st deadline. Photos should demonstrate how litter threatens public health and safety, scenic beauty, property values, the environment, pets or wildlife. Entries will be judged on six criteria: anti-litter message, originality, photographic technique, quality of photo, originality of title and severity of the litter. This year a new category, Before & After, has been added to the contest with 2-$500 prizes (Adult & Student). This category is sponsored by Keep PA Beautiful and entries must be registered with Keep PA Beautiful’s Pick-Up PA Program https://www.keeppabeautiful.org/programs/pick-up-pa/
Entries (limit five per person, no smaller than 4x6 and no larger than 8x10) should be sent to PRC Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Contest, 1521 North Providence Road, Media, PA 19063. High resolution digital submissions may be sent to lensonlitter@prc.org. All entries (including digital) must include the entrant’s name, address, telephone number, email address, title given to photo, location of litter site and how they learned about the contest. Students should also include age, grade and name of school. Photos submitted without all the above will not be judged. All photos may be used by PRC or Keep PA Beautiful at their discretion.
Questions may be directed to lensonlitter@prc.org and additional information, previous winners, sponsors and an online entry form can be found at Lens on Litter Contest - PRC
