MES Weekly Scoop
It's A Great Day to Be A Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!
Principal's Note
March 23-27, 2026
Dear MES Families,
As we return from Spring Break, we are excited to begin the final quarter of the school year at Marysville Elementary. It is hard to believe how quickly the year has gone! This time of year provides a great opportunity to reflect on all that our students and staff have accomplished together. From strong academic growth in our classrooms, to the many events that have brought our school community together—such as family nights, conferences, and special celebrations—we are incredibly proud of the dedication our students have shown and the support our families continue to provide.
This week we will spend time re-establishing routines and reviewing expectations across the building. After a long break, it is important for students to get back into the rhythm of the school day so we can finish the year strong. Our staff will be focusing on helping students reconnect with classroom procedures, learning habits, and our shared expectations for being respectful, responsible, and ready to learn.
Looking ahead, a kick-off assembly for state assessments for students in grades 3–6 will be on Monday, March 30th. These assessments give students the opportunity to demonstrate the learning and growth they have made throughout the year. You will find a testing calendar and helpful tips included below. It is extremely important that students are present and on time on their scheduled testing days so they can do their very best.
One of our building goals this year has been strengthening connection—with our students, our families, and our community. We truly hope that you feel welcomed, informed, and involved in the work happening here. Your partnership plays a vital role in the success of our students, and we are grateful for the continued support you show our school.
Thank you for being such an important part of our MES family. We look forward to a strong finish to a wonderful school year!
With appreciation,
Janine Doebele
Principal, Marysville Elementary
2026 KAP State Assessment Information
Each spring, students in grades 3–6 participate in the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) state assessments. These assessments measure student learning in key academic areas and help us understand how well students are mastering the Kansas state standards. The results provide valuable information for our school and district as we evaluate curriculum, adjust instruction, and ensure all students are growing and receiving the support they need.
KAP assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year. While the tests are just one measure of learning, they help us identify strengths and areas where we can continue to improve as a school community.
It is very important that students are present and on time during testing days. Being at school ensures students can complete the assessments with their classmates in a calm and supportive environment without needing to make up missed sessions later.
We appreciate your support in helping students be well-rested, arrive on time, and ready to do their best! Working together helps us ensure every student has the opportunity to show their growth and success.
Kindergarten Juice Box Brief
This week, we took a deep dive into the future financial plans of our youngest learners by asking: "What will you buy when you are all grown up and have your own money?" While some of our budding entrepreneurs have their sights set on high-end luxury—like a sleek new Lambo—others are focusing on the finer comforts of life, such as new pajamas for their future babies or a "real" pet fox. The shopping lists ranged from the sweet and simple (gum and candy) to every child's ultimate dream: an entire shelf of toys. Whether they are saving up for a teddy bear, some new makeup, or a fleet of Italian supercars, it’s clear that the Class of 2038 has some very big (and very adorable) plans for their first paychecks!
Program Highlight: Fun Fridays! 🎉
Throughout this school year, our Fun Friday program has become a cornerstone of our school culture, serving as a weekly celebration of student dedication and positive behavior. This initiative rewards students who consistently meet our "Bulldog Best" expectations. To be eligible for the week's festivities, students must have earned at least 10 Bulldog Tickets, maintained a clean record with no more than one minor log, and stayed current with all classroom assignments.
The program is designed to give students both autonomy and ongoing incentives:
Student Choice: Each week, eligible students select the specific activity they wish to participate in, allowing them to pursue their own interests with their peers.
Golden Bulldog Tickets: Participants of Fun Friday receive a prestigious Golden Bulldog Ticket from their classroom teacher.
Quarterly Rewards: These golden tickets serve as entries for our grand prize drawings held at the end of each quarter. Prizes rotate throughout the year to keep the excitement high, featuring rewards such as "Minute to Win It" game challenges, lunch with the principal, and various gift cards.
We are incredibly proud of the effort our Bulldogs put in every week to earn their spot in this program!

🚸❗ MES Parking & Drop-Off Safety Notice 🚸❗
To help keep all students and families safe during preschool drop-off and pick-up—and during our regular daily drop-off times—please review the following important parking reminders:
🚫 Do Not Park in Front of the Gate at 10th & Carolina
This area must remain clear at all times. Parking in front of the gate blocks the crosswalk where many students and families need to safely cross before and after school or during drop-off.
Bus Lane Reminders
If you plan to exit your vehicle to walk your child to the building or conduct business in the office, please do NOT park in the bus lane in front of the school.
We must keep this lane open for:
-
Morning and afternoon bus traffic
-
Mid-day transportation bringing students to and from MES
Where You Can Park
For your convenience, parking is available:
-
In the stalls along Carolina Street
-
Along the south side of the concrete wall (parallel parking)
Gate Opening
The gates on 10th Street will be unlocked no later than 3:10 PM daily to allow students to safely cross from the playground and white top area.
ONE WAY on Alston Street
The one way on Alston Street going east from 10th Street to 11th Street was passed and signs are UP. PLEASE be prepared for this change for the traffic to flow in one direction Alston Street (behind the school building) when we return from break on Tuesday, January 6th.
Safety First
Our top priority is the safety of children and families during the busiest times of the day. Improper or illegal parking—such as blocking crosswalks or parking in the bus lane—may result in tickets or penalties issued by the Marysville Police Department.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our MES community safe, respectful, and responsible during arrival and dismissal!
25-26 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK
25/26 MES Parent Handbook
Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.
We ask that families review the handbook occasionally so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.

Bulldog Skill of the Week
Cooperation
We follow the three R's in our building.
Be Ready
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
AND Be Safe
Character Strong – Cooperation (Week 2)
This week we continue focusing on Cooperation, an important skill that helps our students learn, grow, and succeed together. Cooperation means working with others, listening to different ideas, and doing our part to help the whole group succeed.
As staff, we can support this skill by:
Modeling teamwork with colleagues and students.
Providing opportunities for students to work together in pairs or groups.
Recognizing and praising cooperative behaviors like sharing ideas, taking turns, and helping a peer.
Teaching students how to respectfully solve problems when working with others.
When we intentionally highlight and practice cooperation, we help students build strong relationships and a positive learning community. Let’s keep encouraging our Bulldogs to work together and support one another!
