Principal Message
We are off to a wonderful start at Riverside! As we begin our second week of school, students are settling into routines, building relationships, and getting back into the rhythm of learning. It has been great to see our classrooms filled with smiles, hard work, and excitement for the year ahead.
These first few weeks are so important as we establish expectations, practice routines, and create strong classroom communities. Thank you, families, for your support at home and for helping your child arrive each day ready to learn. Your partnership makes such a difference!
Special shoutout to all the families that walked in the homecoming parade! It was a fun night as our small school had one of the largest groups from the westside. Even though it was a HOT night, you stepped up to make it a memorable one. Thank you for representing Riverside!
As we continue Growing Together, we look forward to celebrating the progress that our students make each day. We are grateful to have you as part of our Riverside family and are excited for another great week!
Back to School Information
PreK drop off begins at 8:30am in front of building. (Parents/Guardians must bring child to front door)
Students eating breakfast will enter through the gates at 8:00am and stay in cafeteria until 8:20am.
Walk-and-Talk begins at 8:20am for students not eating breakfast (if the weather does not permit then students will walk to their lockers to sit, chat, read).
Students line up on their grade level lines on the playground at 8:30am bell (or by locker for indoor).
Any student who enters after 8:30am will ring the bell and come through the front door.
Our goal each year is to keep our students, parents, and staff safe during dismissal! Kindly work to pick up your child on time as directed.
The image above shows our dismissal procedures. You may park in the lots to pick up your child(ren), while some students walk/ride their bikes. The green lane by the school is our pickup lane where you can park, but please stay in the car so when your child comes out, you can pull away and give the spot to another car. The driving lane is for driving only. Students should NOT cross into street to get into a vehicle in that lane.
Our job as adults is to be role models for the children! Please use the crosswalk when crossing the streets as students observe when adults do it. We are teaching these expectations to the students as well to work together. Our goal is to keep this process as effective and quick as possible!
If you are in the instance to be a few minutes late, please call the school to let the office know. In the event, the student is waiting with no communication, we have had to contact the non-emergent police department. We appreciate your communication and do understand things come up once in awhile!
Thanks for all your support!
Parent Check-In
Just a reminder that any parents/guardians have to enter through the OFFICE when entering the building. Please refrain from entering the side door while students go to breakfast. It is essential for safety purposes. Kindly ring the bell at the front door to check in. ALL visitors must receive a visitor pass prior to entering the building.
The students are in the swing of routines, so we ask parents to drop off at the gate and let the students individually participate in walk-n-talk. Thank you for your help!
Eating with Student
If you would like to eat lunch/breakfast with your student, please call the school to give Kim, a heads up in advance. 712-279-6811. Check in with the office when you arrive and get a visitor badge!
Behavior Bootcamp
Students participated in a schoolwide bootcamp to practice expectations in common areas such as hallways, lunch, bathroom, recess, arrival and walk-n-talk. We practice these so students understand these expectations are consistent throughout the building with all students/classes. We will continue to monitor and reteach as needed. We're proud of students effort to practice and make positive choices!

Packing a Healthy Cold Lunch
We want all of our students to have the energy they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the school day! If your child brings a cold lunch from home, we encourage families to pack a balanced lunch that will help keep them fueled for the afternoon. We see some lunch consist of mostly sugar, which can make it difficult to stay focused throughout the day.
A healthy cold lunch might include a protein (such as a sandwich, cheese, yogurt, or meat), fruit or vegetables, a grain, and water or milk. A small treat is perfectly okay, too! We simply encourage families to balance treats with foods that provide the nutrition and energy students need during their busy school day.
We appreciate your help in making lunchtime a healthy and positive part of the day. When our students feel their best, they are ready to do their best!
Thank you for your help as we continue Growing Together!

Handbook Includes Updated Protocol Information
Have you reviewed the 2026-2027 SCCSD Parent/Guardian – Student Handbook? The handbook includes important information to help students reach their fullest potential at school. Families are encouraged to review the handbook with their students to make sure they are aware of what is expected of them as a student in the Sioux City Community School District.

Have a Safety Concern?
Safe + Sound Iowa offers students and families a convenient way to anonymously report safety concerns related to our school. Trained dispatchers will share the information with appropriate school administrators and/or law enforcement so help can be given to those in crisis or at risk.
School Safety
The safety of our students and staff is paramount. The District uses Standard Response Protocol or common terms to communicate our actions and response in emergency situations. The terms Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter are used so students, staff, and first responders understand the situation and how best to respond.
We encourage families to become familiar with these terms to better understand our school’s response and what to expect in a crisis. For more information on safety preparedness within the District, visit siouxcityschools.org.
