Hines Mission and Vision
Mission: At Hines Elementary, it is our unwavering commitment to establish a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our students will feel loved, supported, and find joy in learning. ❤️
Vision: At Hines Elementary, we are committed to cultivating a vibrant and dynamic learning environment that ignites curiosity, fosters creativity, and celebrates student achievements. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for critical thinking that are essential for academic success and positive character growth. Through collaboration with families and the wider community, we strive to empower our students to reach their full potential and become responsible, compassionate, and engaged citizens.
A Note from Mrs. Mathe
Today at Hines Elementary we wrapped up our 3rd Annual Kindness Week with our Dogs of Character program. Students learned about empathy, bravery, resilience, and how to be an get help for them self or others when needed. Several students were recognized for their acts of kindness and enjoyed a special visit with the Dogs of Character after the program. Be sure to ask your child what they learned about these important character traits!
We also hosted our annual Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation event. So far, our Huskies have raised over $2,000 to support research for childhood cancer. Thank you for supporting our 3rd grade philanthropy project and making a difference for children and families in need.
Today we also drew our raffle winners. The video is posted below—congratulations to Lina Khodr and Elsie Powers for winning the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal experiences! A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported our campus.
Lastly, tonight is our K–2 Dance thru the Decades! Our community always shows up with amazing decade-inspired outfits, and I cannot wait to see all the fun tonight! 🕺✨
Bike Racks
Please help us by ensuring your child parks their bike or scooter in the bike racks. This helps keep the sidewalk clear for students and families who need to walk through or access the area.
To support a smooth end-of-day transition, signs will be added at the back biker/walker location to remind students where K–2 and 3–4 should park their bikes.

Student Spotlight
We are excited to introduce a new section in The Hines Herald called Student Spotlight! This feature will celebrate the amazing achievements, acts of kindness, and positive contributions of our Huskies both inside and outside of school. In this section, we will highlight students who have gone above and beyond—whether it’s reaching a personal goal, helping others, or making a difference in the community. We can’t wait to share these inspiring stories and honor the incredible ways our students shine!
Ryan Holloman- 1st Grade
Ryan is hitting all the right notes! His piano instructor recently named him Student of the Month in recognition of his dedication and hard work during lessons. Through consistent practice, Ryan has mastered many chords and is even learning to play along with some of his favorite songs. His instructor is proud of his enthusiasm for learning and the incredible growth he has shown since his very first lesson.
Way to go, Ryan — we are so proud of you!

Hines Elementary is excited to host our annual Diversity Celebration Night, and we would love for our families to be part of it!
We are inviting families to host a table representing a country, culture, or family tradition that is meaningful to you. This is a wonderful opportunity to share what makes your family unique through displays, artifacts, traditional clothing, music, photos, or small food samples (optional).
Our goal is to celebrate the many cultures and backgrounds that make Hines such a special community. Whether your family has deep roots in another country or simply wants to share a special tradition, we welcome your participation!
If you are interested in hosting a table, please sign up using the QR attached to the flyer or contact Mrs. Taylor-Ross for more information. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

The Race to Grand Oaks
We are excited to introduce The Race to Grand Oaks, May 9, 2026, on the campus of Grand Oaks High School. A community fun run designed to bring together feeder schools and the surrounding community in a spirit of friendly competition, school pride, and unity. While the event highlights the Grand Oaks feeder pattern, all schools and community members are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The Race to Grand Oaks is produced by Together We Run, a local company run by moms of students in the Grand Oaks feeder zone who strive to foster community through competition.
Our goal is to build a stronger sense of community while supporting programs that benefit our students. Proceeds from the race will support the York and Grand Oaks cross country and track programs, helping provide opportunities and resources for student-athletes.
To encourage school participation, $3 from every registration will be donated back to the PTO of the feeder school selected at the time of registration. In addition, the top three feeder schools with the highest participation will receive an additional donation for their PE departments.
Participants can also help boost their school’s standing through donations to The Youth Alliance (www.tyall.org). Every $5 donated equals one vote for the donor’s feeder school of choice, giving schools even more opportunity to place in the top three while supporting an organization dedicated to serving youth in our community.
There is an active discount promo code (Grizzlies2026) for 10% off all registrations that is valid through March 8, 2026.
