Lutherville Families,

This week the Maryland State Department of Education released 2022 school report cards. I am pleased to share that with your partnership through the pandemic and the remarkable dedication of our staff, Lutherville Lab not only earned five stars (the state's highest rating, and an achievement only 20 other BCPS schools reached), but we also increased our overall score OVER 7% from 2019!

We are proud of the work that has gotten us to this point, and recognize that the report card shows ways that we must continue to grow to serve every child well and no single measure perfectly captures the effectiveness of a school. If you'd like more information on the Report Card you can access it here.

This week we again hosted visitors, this time from the BCPS Employee Training and Development team on Thursday morning. Their director had this feedback to share following their visit: "...the positive energy in the building was such a joy to feel. All of the staff that we interacted with were kind and welcoming. The students that I chatted with were eager to tell me what they were learning about with great excitement. Lutherville Lab is clearly a great place to learn."

Next time you visit school, don't miss the bulletin board across from the fish tank. There, you'll find childhood pictures from your LL staff. Can you find your child's favorite staff members? A huge thank you to Mrs. McDevitt, Mrs. Ortuglio, and Mrs. Wolfe for their support with the project.

I hope all those attending Pizza Bingo tonight have a blast -- I am traveling to Richmond with my son for a soccer tournament and am sad to miss. There are two summer camp flyers attached to the newsletter if you are looking for summer options and opportunities.

Enjoy the weekend, Leopard families!

-Mr. McComb

Maryland School Survey

Part of determining ratings in the Maryland Report Card is a student survey. In elementary schools, 5th graders are surveyed. At Lutherville Lab, that survey will occur next week. Please read information below and reach out to Mrs. Hart if you have any questions.

State law requires that all public schools in Maryland survey students about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning.

Students will take the Maryland School Survey during regular school hours during the week of March 13th. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate their privacy.

The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of

specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district.

We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Connee Hart at 443-809-7800.

Middle School Boundary Study

The middle school boundary study continues to move forward. The committee has identified four possible options and are seeking community input on those four options. There is a survey that will close Sunday March 19th.

If you'd like to take the survey (which contains maps and information about the four options) you can access that here.
