Message from Ms. Lahey Message from Ms. Lahey

Greetings Hembree Families!

March is here, and the first week has already flown by! A quick reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend—we’ll all be “springing forward” and losing an hour of sleep. I heard on the radio this morning that the time change can especially impact children, and maintaining a consistent routine can help since the extra daylight can make evenings feel earlier than they are. It may take up to a week for everyone to adjust, so I know I’ll be prioritizing my own bedtime!

Our Glow Party Dance and Silent Auction was a huge success! We are just shy of reaching our $10,000 goal, so don’t miss your chance to bid on some amazing items. The bidding ends on Sunday March 8th at 5:00 PM. Information on how to bid is included below. We hope you find something wonderful while supporting our amazing PTA.

Thank you to the families who attended our online Georgia Milestones meeting. I’ve included the link below with the information I shared. Please reach out if you have any questions.

We are excited for our Annual Talent Show on Thursday, March 19th at 6:00 PM! It’s always a joy to see the many talents of our students and staff, and we hope to see you there.

Our new Chromebooks arrived this week, and they are working beautifully. We are thrilled to have new devices for our students in grades 3–5.

The deadline to purchase a yearbook is quickly approaching. If your child would like one, please be sure to order by March 20th. We do not order extra copies, so purchasing before the deadline is essential. Thank you for your understanding.

Please join us for our Title I Family Input Meeting on March 17th at 7:40 AM in the media center, or you can attend virtually on Teams at 5:15 PM. Your input is important and appreciated. More information can be found on the flyer below.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Warm Regards,

Nancy Lahey

Collaborative Problem Solving Collaborative Problem Solving

Another one of the student success skills students are developing this year is collaborative problem solving. Being a collaborative problem solver means you can work with others to solve a problem.

Collaborative Problem Solving is working with others to solve a problem or to generate ideas to complete a task. Students will practice solving problems together, learn about the importance of being a cooperative member of a group, and how to peacefully resolve conflicts.

Younger students arguing over toys can work together to come up with ideas on how to share or take turns.

Older students working on a science project together may decide to divide tasks and materials and agree on different roles and responsibilities. They will learn to listen to others’ ideas.

Being able to solve disputes peacefully with other people is an important life skill to practice when young!

Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!

All Stars Wanted All Stars Wanted

Each week the PE department will choose 4 All Star Athletes (2 students & 2 staff members). If your student enjoys hiking, swimming, baseball, softball, football, biking, etc. Please email a picture to marzetti@fultonschools.org.

Ms. Marzetti
