Clicking on this button will take you to a visual depiction of the types of work taking place on our site. This is intended to general information, as actual site actives often change based on a multitude of factors.

Calendar Survey
We need your input on the 2026–27 school calendar. Next year presents unique scheduling challenges that require trade-offs:
- Two state-mandated closures for election days
- Labor Day on September 7, followed by an election closure September 8
- Juneteenth observed Friday, June 18
- RI law requires schools close by July 1 with at least four make-up days after the last scheduled day
These constraints make it impossible to maintain all features of this year's calendar—post-Labor Day start, pre-Juneteenth end, Wednesday before Thanksgiving off, and full-week February and April vacations.
Please share your preferences: https://forms.gle/EpuqMoSXzVjviuKB6
Thank you for your input.
Text Messaging Service
Nearly 1,600 families have opted into our Text Messaging service—a great addition to our communication tools. This service allows us to quickly notify parents and guardians of urgent issues, which will be especially helpful during winter weather. Since RI Broadcasters no longer supports texting, this is an efficient way to receive important information. We'll continue using all forms of communication for closures and delays, and we're excited that texting is now part of our toolkit. If you haven't opted in yet, simply text Y or Yes to 67587. Once you complete this step, you'll receive text messages as long as that number matches the Primary or Secondary number in your Skyward account.
Below is a video on how to update your phone number in Skyward. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this email.

Screentime Tip for December
Problem: Winter break often leads to screen time overindulgence with new devices as gifts and increased free time.
Solution: Create a "Holiday Media Balance Plan" that includes dedicated device-free activities alongside structured screen time. For new tech gifts, implement the "Setup Before Play" rule - configure all parental controls before allowing use. Use device settings to create daily holiday allowances that provide flexibility while maintaining boundaries.
Resource: Family Online Safety Institute provides holiday-specific guides for managing new technology gifts: fosi.org/parenting

WKES Kindergarten Pumpkin Patch
Kindergarten students at West Kingston Elementary School put their developing math skills to wonderful use by creating a delightful pumpkin display that brightened up the hallway. They counted out pumpkin seeds and wrote the numbers on the stems, demonstrating strong number recognition and counting abilities. The project turned out so cool and showcased such impressive student work that we simply couldn't resist sharing these photos with the entire school community.
