The Snow Forecast #6
November 2, 2025
https://ptcfast.com/schools/Mary_Snow_School_1
The week of conferences is a full vacation week for students (Nov 24-Nov 28) and we also observe Veteran's Day, which is Tuesday, November 11, so school will be closed.
We also collect valuable data regarding our school climate. Teachers have been sending this survey out in their own newsletters, but here is another opportunity to participate if you have not yet. It takes about 3-5 minutes and gives us what we are doing well and places to go for improvement. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us know the family perspective regarding Mary Snow's climate!

Music Update!
🎶
In music class, the 5th graders have been preparing for their concert in December! We are working on a variety of skills such as healthy vocal technique, dynamics (volume), singing in a different language, and much more. We have been ending class with a game called "Night at the Museum", which encourages students to move and act within the guidelines of the game. It has been a blast!
4th graders are working on note reading, which is an important skill to have before we start working on recorders. They are creating and playing their own beats using rhythm sticks, while learning about music notes (whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes, as well as quarter rests). Class ends with a challenge where students are encouraged to read the notes out loud while playing their rhythm sticks without help from Miss Bartley!
What's Going on in Our Library?
It’s hard to believe we’re already through the first quarter of the school year. We’ve had
lots of fun in the library so far. We’ve read several books spanning a variety of topics,
learned about and made acrostic poems, taste tested fry bread, shared favorite family
recipes, learned how to draw a scarecrow and successfully navigated the library
“escape room”. If you’ve driven past the school on Broadway and seen the beautifully
decorated leaves in the windows, those were made by our students and proudly
displayed. This week we will be learning about Veteran's Day and doing activities
surrounding this topic. I have really enjoyed getting to know our students and am
looking forward to a great second quarter.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lobley
ART
The art room is in full swing now, buzzing with the sounds of creative young thinkers! Both grades 4 and 5 have settled into a nice routine. I have been so inspired and impressed by all of their hard work! There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not grateful that I get to work with these amazing, creative, kind, and funny artists. I have the best job in the world.
The 4th grade has wrapped up their “Superhero/ Villain Poster Unit”. This project involved developing an original hero or villain (these could be serious or silly) and stretched 4th graders to plan out their designs in their sketchbook . After viewing images of powerful comic book posters and panels, we discussed how the elements of art and principles of design help artists to create dramatic, and visually interesting compositions. Students made a plan, and then brought that plan to life on large poster paper, with mixed media of tempera paint, cut paper collage, and various drawing materials. The final results are beautiful masterpieces the kids are incredibly proud of!
The 5th graders also just completed a unit. They created absolutely beautiful portraits, and learned a great deal about realistic portraiture by observing human faces. Students focused on realistic details, proportion, size relationships, and placement of features to render very sophisticated images. They were invited to create a portrait of anyone (this could be someone they know or would like to know, an imaginary character, or a person from the past.) The results are beyond words, their work is just incredible!
A great big “THANK YOU!” to all the families that have been sending in egg cartons, as well as so many other thoughtful items for the artroom. You all have been incredibly generous, and we will definitely put these supplies to good use! Thank you again!!!!
