Gunter ISD is proud to announce the Spring 2025 Superintendent Honor Roll.

Gabriella Roten - GES

Hunter Smith - GES

Jaxson Fuggett - GMS

Kanie Sweet - GMS

Burkleigh Coats - GHS

Hayden Rodges - GHS

These students were selected by the staff/teachers at each campus and acknowledged during the school board meeting in March. A student selected for this honor is one who stands out as being on top of "all things". They are studious, well-mannered, helpful, thoughtful, and spirited. They are not people who stand around and wait to be told what to do, they are "go-getters" who will see that something needs to be done, and then accomplish it.

Congratulations to all of you!

As a reward, the fall and spring recipients will be taken on a fun field trip with Mr. Martindale and his staff at the end of the year.

Faculty Recognition

Gunter ISD is proud to announce the Spring Faculty Recognition recipients. Teachers and staff are selected by the campus leader for going above and beyond their regular duties. These employees don't need to be reminded of what they are here for; they are on auto-pilot and it is in their normal character to just get things done, and done well. Congratulations to those who were honored at the board meeting in March!

Tiger Uber - 3rd 9 Weeks

The Tiger Uber pulled up to the elementary school to treat some special girls and boys to a sweet ride! At the end of the 9 week grading period, each bus driver selected one girl and one boy from the GES and GMS campuses to ride in the "Tiger Uber" for their outstanding behavior on the bus.

The elementary students were chauffeured home by Transportation Director, Nicole Mann, who picked them up in the school suburban and delivered them home in style!

Congratulations to these elementary students who were selected as the 3rd 9 Week Tiger Uber Recipients!

Crystal Apple Award - Support Staff

The staff at GES is top notch, so when one of them is selected to be a stand out, you know they are going way beyond what is expected. This "go-getter" attitude describes Elizabeth Mercado to a tee! As described by her peers...

- Lisa is a tremendous blessing to our students, District and community. Her dedication to her student’s success is inspiring.

- She does so much for both students and staff. We appreciate her support in helping our students be successful. She is always available for questions and gives great input on what to do to better serve our kids.

We are proud to call her a Gunter Tiger and award her the Crystal Apple Award for this 9 week grading period! **Side note... she is a graduate of this very school system 💙

Crystal Apple Award - Teaching Staff

The teachers at GES are top notch, so when one of them is selected to be a stand out, you know they are going way beyond what is expected. This "go-getter" attitude describes Courtney Vest to a tee! As described by her peers...

- She is never too busy, stressed or overwhelmed to help a fellow teacher. She thinks outside of the box for her students. She builds relationships with her students in and out of school. Her enthusiasm for teaching is contagious. She works well with everyone on campus.

We are proud to call her a Gunter Tiger and award her the Crystal Apple Teacher Award for this 9 week grading period!

students with leprechaun traps they built
zoom_out_map

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Mrs. Vest's students read, "How to Catch a Leprechaun" and then spent the morning making a leprechaun trap either solo or in partners (student's choice). While they were at lunch, that sneaky leprechaun came in and went through everyone’s trap without getting caught! He took a lot of gold and some paper candy, but he left behind a lot of gold glitter and green footprints

student judge and student speaker
zoom_out_map

Our third graders have been busy in reading and writing!

They learned the writing process and composed an opinion essay about a topic they feel strongly about, and they read the nonfiction text, I Dissent, about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. To connect the ideas in both subjects, we transformed our classrooms into a courtroom. Students had the opportunity to share their opinion in front of their peers (the jury), and votes were cast whether they agreed or dissented. The judge then made the final ruling of the majority vote for each opinion presented. After all opinions were shared and voted on, a great time was had, and court was adjourned.

**Maybe we have some future lawyers and judges in the class 💼

Classroom Highlights!

Here's a glimpse of what is going on inside the GMS classrooms.

Beaks Matter!

5th graders in Mrs. Bon's science lab learned what it is like to be a bird. During the “bird beak” lab, they had to try to "eat" different types of food with different kinds of beaks. Students used a variety of objects that simulated the different types of birds and had to try to pick up a variety of objects. By doing this, they were drawing conclusions on which foods each bird would most likely eat because of the shape of their beak.

Makey Makey

5th grade Discovery student had a lot of fun using a coding tool called Makey Makey. By attaching an alligator clip to any object and then moving or pressing that object, the computer thinks you're pressing a keyboard. By mimicking a keyboard and mouse the Makey Makey lets you control any computer program with everyday objects. Coding is fun!

Senior Slide Show Information

This takes time to create, so you MUST send these in by May 1st! Traditionally, this is a slideshow highlighting each graduate with 3 pictures, (Baby, Senior, and Formal).
** Submit your photos to laci@rubysrubbish.com. Laci will respond to your email when she receives it. If you don’t see a response within 24 hours, please re-send the email.

  • Please send the photos in jpg or png format as an attachment (not embedded) to the email.
  • Please send the photos as a high quality photo (in other words, don't let your email reduce the size of the image).

Baby Pic - This can be one of your favorites from when they were little. We prefer photos with just the graduate in the photo... for example, not one with their siblings or friends. It can be cute, funny, or serious.

Senior Photo - This is a photo taken this year. Many seniors have senior photos taken at the beginning of their senior year. If you did not have a photo session, you can simply take a picture of your senior with your phone. We do ask that this photo be school appropriate in the clothing choice and pose.

Formal Photo - If your senior took advantage of the session with Garner Studio, the school has these photos, you do not need to send it. However, if you did not have a formal photo taken with Garner Studio, please let us know ASAP at sneely@gunterisd.org so we can have your student meet with someone at the high school to take the picture.

Cicada - District UIL

Our OAP journey ended unexpectedly early this year after a series of unfortunate events led to us going overtime by just a few seconds (6 to be exact.) But even a fraction of a second over time leads to disqualification. HOWEVER - these kids absolutely rocked every second they were on that stage and we couldn’t be more proud of the show they put on…all 40:06 of it. It was BEAUTIFUL. Mrs. McGaughey said, "What I was most impressed with was how in the face of such heartbreak, they held their heads high and finished the day with dignity and class."
