We Are Hawks, Watch Us SOAR!
Principal's Corner
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your children had an awesome experience these past 3 weeks of school. Our students continue learning daily routines, adjusting to schedules and making lots of new friends.
Families will be receiving this school newsletter two times a month. I include any pertaining events from our district and our school, review new policies or provide you with any important reminders.
Our assistant principal, Mrs. Miriam Bencomo will be out on leave, in her place we would like to welcome Mr. Johnny Gonzalez as the Interim AP. Mr. Gonzalez will be the direct admin person for sped, 504s, and discipline reporting. His email address is: jgonzal4@episd.org.
We know that our city's weather is very unpredictable, our teachers have been informed that if their classroom reaches an unbearable temperature to report it to the main office and the class will be moved to a designated cool zone ex., another classroom, the library, cafeteria depending on the day and time needed, while their AC is being repaired.
I am pleased to announce that you may nominate your child/children for our GT program. Please call our office or contact our GT Coordinator- Mrs. Sonia Jimenez at sfjimene@episd.org .
Once your nomination is received your child will be scheduled for testing during the month of September. Ms. Jimenez will be your contact person if you require additional information.
If your child is in grades 3, 4 or 5, he/she received the Intramurals permission slip and a flyer with all necessary information to make an informed decision if you would like for your child to participate. The deadline for returning the permission slip is on Friday, August 29. We would like to see our students join this fun after school activity! See flyer below.
Lastly, I would like to inform you that in celebration of Grandparents' Day, we will be hosting a Grandparents' breakfast on Friday, September 5th, from 7:30 to 8:00 am. Our cafeteria staff will be pre-selling "pozole" breakfast for $6.00. Additionally, our school will have a photo booth where you can buy a beautiful framed picture of your child/children and grandparent (s) for $ 4.00. Please see the flyer below.
Thank you for your support in making Dr. Green a great school to be. Please know that I foster an open-door policy for continuous communication. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with ideas, suggestions or any concerns you may have. Have a great weekend!
Respectfully,
Guadalupe Pineda

Dr. Green Daily Procedures
Drop Off Zone and Parking lot (7:30 am): Student drop off lane for parents to drop off students is accessible for students in grades 1-5. For students PreK and Kinder we recommend parents to park in the last parking row (if available) and walk your children to the building. An office clerk greets students and helps out parents at the drop off area. One custodian secures and supervises the teachers’ access lane. Teachers have access to the parking lot by displaying the Staff Parking green card and park in any available space within the first 3 rows.
Accessing the building (Office opens at 7:30 am): All personnel and visitors enter through the main front office entrance. All personnel wears their district badge. All visitors will stop at the front desk for service. Visitors are required to show a valid ID and stay in the office while they are being helped by the office staff. No parent is permitted to have or accompany their children during breakfast or lunch periods.
Morning Blacktop Supervision: (7:30 to 8:00 am) All students are greeted in the morning, students are guided to the blacktop to line up. The 2 PE Coaches and the Campus Monitor monitor students from 7:30 am to 8:00 am.
Instruction: (8:00 am) It is expected for students to be in line at 8:00 am. Instruction begins at 8:15, however, students should be in the classroom for announcements and breakfast before 8:15.
Accessing Classrooms: (8:00 am)Teachers pick up students from the blacktop. Students have breakfast in the classroom and instruction begins.
Tardies: (8:15 am) Any student coming into the front door of the school after 8:15 am, is considered late. Parents need to drop off the students in the front office. The students will receive a tardy slip by the office clerks to be able to get in their classroom.
Lunch: (ranges from 11:00-12:30 according to grade schedule) Teachers take students to recess, outside monitors bring students to the cafeteria for lunch. Teachers pick up students from the cafeteria adhering to the set schedule.
Dismissal: (3:25 pm) Teachers exit the main entrance and take students to the front area for dismissal.
Buses/Daycare: (3:25 pm) All students wear a bus tag according to the bus or daycare vans they are riding. Students in PreK, Kinder and 1st grade are picked up by our campus clerk and guide them to the cafeteria for bus boarding. Grades 2-5 walk to the cafeteria and are received by 2 monitors. Paraprofessionals will be securing and supervise the bus area in the cafeteria ensuring that every student on the list rides the bus/daycare vans. Paraprofessionals will account for every student by checking off students’ names as they board the vehicles. Students attending the after school extended daycare are gathered at the Community Room.
Dismissal Areas: (3:25 pm) All students are dismissed at the front of the school by their teachers. Each grade level has an assigned waiting area for parents. Students are dismissed only to the parents or the parent’s designee.
Afterschool Traffic: (3:25 pm)The drop off area is accessible for students pick up. We encourage only students in Grades 1-5 to use the drop off/pick up area. PreK-Kinder parents will park and walk to pick up their children. Pre-determined teacher volunteers, PE Coaches work the traffic flow and crosswalks.
Drop Off Zone
Please be mindful of the parking lot flow, enter only at the entrance not the exit, and when looking for a parking space, please pay attention to the direction the parking lines are pointing to.
Extremely important! Please do not park in the yellow line adjacent to the sidewalk. Parking in this area blocks vehicles parked in the last row.
Transportation
Please notify your children teacher and office staff if your children will be riding the school bus. Transportation is provided only to those students whose parent signed a transportation request form and this was approved by the school office. Please call our office at (915) 236-3000 to verify if you meet transportation eligibility criteria.
