Reminder: No School Tomorrow
Principal's Message
Dear Bethany Families,
Fall Conferences are coming (October 22nd and 23rd). You should have received sign-ups from your child's teacher yesterday (unless you already have a conference scheduled with an interpreter). Conferences offer a valuable opportunity to connect, reflect, and collaborate. They are more than just a check-in—they’re a chance to strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring every child feels supported and celebrated. You have the choice to meet in person or on zoom. We prefer in-person meetings, and we also understand that Zoom provides much-needed flexibility for some families. 🥰
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for a meaningful conference:
- Reflect Together: Talk with your child ahead of time. Ask them how they feel about school, what they’re proud of, and if there’s anything they’d like you to share with their teacher.
- Bring Questions: Jot down any questions or concerns you may have—whether about academics, social-emotional growth, or classroom routines. No question is too small!
- Share Insights: You know your child best. Sharing what motivates them, how they learn best, or any changes at home can help us better support them at school.
- Celebrate Growth: Conferences are a time to recognize progress, not just performance. We’ll highlight your child’s strengths and set goals together for continued growth.
- Stay Connected: The conversation doesn’t end at the conference. We’re here to partner with you all year long. Let’s keep the lines of communication open!
We look forward to seeing you and working together to make this a joyful and successful year for your child.
With Gratitude,
Ms. Rosenquist
In the Door by 7:44!
We were inspired by Hiteon Elementary's snappy little slogan to help children and families get to school on time, "In the door by 7:44." Mrs. Burton made this cute graphic and Mrs. Kropilak created the video with a fun theme song below.
Every morning offers a fresh start, and being on time to school makes a huge, positive difference for every student. When students arrive on time, they are ready to jump right into learning, connect with their friends and teachers, and begin the day feeling confident and prepared. Our goal is to partner with all our families to encourage every student to be IN THE DOOR BY 7:44 so they can start their day off right. Getting to school on time is a simple, powerful way to set students up for a successful day!

🚗🚌🚙. PARKING LOT REQUEST🚗🚌🚙
Morning arrival time and afternoon dismissal are the busiest times of the day at Bethany. SAFETY is our first priority, followed by providing a warm and welcoming start to everyone's day.
To that end, we would like to ask people to AVOID the need to use the crosswalk whenever possible. We understand there are some special cases, but in general, here are some helpful alternatives:
- Drop off and pick up your child at the curb. We provide curbside door service to help your child in and out of the passenger side of your vehicle and staff to support the transition inside if needed.
- If you really want to park and walk your child to the door, please use the lower parking lot and then walk along the sidewalk in front of the school, then we don't need to stop traffic twice for parents coming and going each way.
- Use off-campus parking in the cul-de-sac on Ashland Ave or on NW 178th Ave and then walk in along the sidewalk. Older students can meet their parents near the those locations to avoid the parking lot chaos altogether at dismissal time.
We really appreciate your help with keeping traffic moving smoothly and helping to keep everyone safe. If you have any questions or need help working out a solution for your specific situation, please don't hesitate to reach out to the office. 💛
🚲 Bethany Bike Bus! 🚲
Check out our very first Bethany Bike Bus in action! We will ride every Wednesday, Rain or Shine, and you're always welcome to join in on the fun. Join us at the beginning or anywhere on the route.
We’re also looking for parent volunteers to help organize—whether it’s weekly or just once a month, your support makes a big difference!
Let’s keep rolling together! 💙

Lost and Found Smart Watch
A smart watch was found on Friday during the Jog-A-Thon, and we’d love to return it to its owner! If you think it might be yours, please stop by the office. Be ready to describe the watch (type, color, brand, etc.) so we can make sure it gets back to the right person.
Thanks for helping us reunite it with its owner!

Meet Julian
It has been a busy few weeks at the Bethany Library Media Center.
Kindergarteners have familiarized themselves with the library and now transition well from listening to a read aloud online to checking out books to Storytime. First and Second graders are exploring chapter books and new selections in Non-fiction and Graphic Novels. Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades are expanding their interests in non-fiction or finishing series books faster than I can find a copy sometimes. Many of our older students are forming teams to compete in the Oregon Battle of the Book (OBOB)competition.
In September we also celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month with some videos about Hispanic and Latino heritage, famous personalities and stories written by acclaimed author Yuyi Morales. I am noticing a definite change in reading habits because of pop culture-the most requested books are Manga and books based on the movie K-pop Demon Hunters!!
3rd - 5th Graders
If your student is interested in participating in OBOB, please check the OBOB Information link below. I will add more resources, practice questions, author name pronunciation guides etc. in the next couple months . Parents can help teams by facilitating discussion meetings at home, quizzing their student on details from the books, guide them to take notes on the details, registering to participate/ observe practice battles at various Washington County public libraries during winter break etc.

Want To Volunteer: Here is How!
We love having families involved at school, and volunteering is a great way to connect and support our students and staff. To help keep everyone safe, all volunteers need to complete an application through our district’s volunteer system, Raptor, and pass an Oregon criminal background check. Once you're approved, you'll get a confirmation email.
Update: If you were in the system last year, you are still approved.
Volunteer Information and Application
Thanks so much for your support—we couldn’t do it without you!
