Each morning, we recite the school pledge to remind ourselves of the values we share as a community—respect, responsibility, kindness, and a commitment to doing our best. Saying the pledge is more than just a daily routine; it’s a moment for students to center themselves and make a promise about the kind of choices they plan to make throughout the day. When students follow through on the words they speak, they build strong character, strengthen our school community, and create a positive environment where everyone can learn and grow. The pledge becomes meaningful when we live it, and together we help make those words a reality in our classrooms and hallways.

Throughout the day, you can hear staff reminding students of these expectations as they ask, "Are you being safe?" or "Was that a responsible thing to do?" We try to center our behavior expectations and discussions around the three pillars of our pledge.

As we enter the next few weeks, we expect to see more behaviors than usual. The excitement of the season and holidays coupled with the cold weather and it getting dark so early means that behaviors will no doubt increase. Please speak with your child about behavior expectations while at school. Ask your child how they are safe, respectful or responsible with their classmates and friends.

We love having visitors join our students for lunch, however we must ensure we are following the state guidelines for food. Visitors are not permitted to bring outside food into the school cafeteria. Thank you for understanding.

LJES is looking for a School Designated Guest Teacher (permanent substitute). This individual would mainly work at LJES, but if no sub were needed in our building that day, would be shared with other schools who are short staffed. If you or someone you know is interested, you can apply at the Bullitt County School website.

As we plan for events to round out the end of the year, remember that any visitors to our building during the school day must present a driver's license or photo ID at the front doors for entry and front desk to sign in. This includes end of year award ceremonies.

We hate having to turn family away from awards ceremonies and other family events during the school day, but student safety is our first priority.

What does this mean?

A Title I school is a public school receiving federal funding through the Title I, Part A program of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. These funds are allocated to schools with a high percentage of students from low-income families to help raise academic achievement for all students, particularly those at risk of failing to meet state standards.

How does LJES use Title 1 funds?

Title I funds supplement, rather than replace, state and local funding and can be used for various activities, such as hiring more teachers, providing additional instructional supplies, implementing after-school programs, or supporting parental involvement.

Here at LJES, we use our funding to:

  • pay for half of the school librarian
  • hire an additional staff member to work with small groups throughout the school day
  • purchase technology that accompanies our Reading and Math curriculum to enable teachers to plan and meet individual needs
  • pay for staff to receive training to further their teaching skills and knowledge
