Chatham Elementary School Community Update

CES SHARK Alert for Week of June 2nd-6th

Sunday, June 1st

Dear SHARK families and friends,

Welcome the final stretch of the school year. Our SHARKS have just 12.5 more days of learning and fun ahead of them before the summer break officially begins. June is full of end-of-year celebrations. Please keep reading the SHARK Alert each week so you don't miss out on any of the exciting activities.

This week, CES celebrates its annual Field Day. On Tuesday, our SHARKS take to the fields for water play, field games, and carnival games. At approximately 1:00 pm, the entire school meets up on the A's field for our tug-of-war. Come out and cheer on our athletes as they take on different classes and a teacher team! More details about Field Day are below and parent volunteers are still needed for several classrooms. Please note there are no afterschool clubs on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, CES celebrates its final SHARK Assembly of the year. We invite the families of students who will be performing musical numbers to attend. The assembly begins at approximately 1:15pm. Please check in at the Main Office if attending.

In other news, our fourth grade class is eagerly anticipating their promotion to the middle school. On Monday, June 9th they will be walking to the middle school for their Step Up Day. On Friday, June 13th, the class will have an afternoon celebration with a BBQ picnic and water activities. Finally, on Wednesday, June 18th, we celebrate the 4th-graders one last time with the 4th-Grade Clap Out. At 10:45 am the students leave their classrooms for one last time and walk the halls of CES to the cheers of all students and staff members. The parade eventually makes it way outdoors, where parents and community members are invited to line the sidewalk along the front of the school and cheer them for completing their time at Chatham Elementary. All students are dismissed at 11:00 am on the 18th. We hope you can join us for this special CES tradition.

Field Day - Tuesday, June 3rd

Volunteers Needed

Chatham Elementary School's annual Field Day will be on Tuesday, June 3rd. This all-day event is for all CES students. Families and caregivers are welcome to join us for the festivities. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down the event and classroom volunteers are needed to travel with classes from activity to activity. If you can volunteer your time, please sign up on the volunteer sheet located here. A reminder that all volunteers must have a current CORI form on file with MRSD.

Field Day officially begins at 8:15 and is divided into three main stations: water games (CES parking lot), carnival games (Little League field behind Monomoy Youth Services), and field games (Chatham A's field). Classes spend one hour at each station and have the opportunity to play all of the games at each station. The day ends with our annual tug-of-war competition on the A's field, followed by a soaking from our friends at the Chatham Fire Department.

Students will receive their field day t-shirts in homeroom the morning of the event. We highly recommend that students bring a towel and are prepared for a full day in the sun with hats and/or sunscreen, and a water bottle. Many students choose to wear a bathing suit under their shorts and t-shirts.

Chatham Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The PTO meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Parents that would like to attend from home can connect via the Zoom Meeting Link provided below. There are lots of activities coming soon and all sorts of help is needed.

CES Float for the Chatham 4th of July Parade

CES will be represented again this year in the 2025 Chatham 4th of July Parade. This year, Ms. Kidd and her club are hard at work designing and building the CES float.

We are currently seeking a community member with a pick up truck who would be willing to be part of the parade with our group. If you're interested in helping out and being a part of this fun-loving, patriotic group please contact Ms. Kidd ckidd@monomoy.edu or Dr. Kelly at jakelly@monomoy.edu
