Board of Education Approves Resolution for New Ballot Proposal
At the 3/9 meeting, the Board of Education approved a resolution supporting a potential countywide enhancement millage. The proposal would levy 1.5 mills for six years, with the election being held on August 4, 2026. This funding would provide additional general fund revenue to all public school districts in Oakland County beyond the state’s per-pupil funding.
This action requests that the Oakland Schools Board of Education place the proposal on the ballot. Oakland Schools may do so if districts representing a majority (50% + 1 student) of Oakland County residents approve the same resolution.
Why is this being considered?
School costs continue to rise faster than state and federal funding. A countywide millage would give districts the flexibility to address local needs, such as staff recruitment and retention, safety, mental health supports, and maintaining smaller class-size. Neighboring Wayne and Macomb counties already have similar millages in place.
What’s next?
If Oakland Schools moves the proposal forward, we will share additional details, including cost information, potential uses of funds, ballot language, a website and FAQs. For now, we want the community to be aware that the resolution has been approved locally and is now under consideration by districts across the county.

Filter First Requirements for K-12 Schools
Protecting the Health of Children
Filter First requires schools to provide filtered drinking water. These filters are a protective measure, used as a precaution, to protect children from potential lead exposure. Filter usage does not mean that there is lead in the water, it protects you in case there is. Signage will be placed on bottle-filling stations and/or hand washing stations. For more information on Filter First, visit www.Michigan.gov/FilterFirst
