Chinese New Year Celebration Chinese New Year Celebration

Students made paper decorations for the Year of the Horse: origami horses and other zodiac animals, flowers for abundance, and the characters for good fortune and spring. Lastly, students wrote rhyming couplets to wish health and prosperity for the new year, which are hung beside doors and entryways to welcome people.

Ms. Chiang, the Chinese teacher, gave out red envelopes to students, which are embossed with words of well wishes and symbolize good luck.

Finally, they celebrated the first day of the new year with a big feast: students brought potluck items of the celebratory Chinese dishes (dumplings for togetherness, noodles for longevity, citrus fruits for spring, etc.). They ate until they were stuffed.

May your year be filled with Health, Wealth, and Good Fortune!

The Art of Diplomacy The Art of Diplomacy

On Friday, February 6th, a select group of students had the opportunity to attend The Art and

Impact of Diplomacy at the ASU building in Los Angeles. Our students were able to listen to a

panel discussion from the Consul General of Italy, Deputy Consul General of Korea, and

Honorary Consul General of Estonia. Following the discussion, students were allowed to ask

questions about their work. Our Raiders came prepared and asked many questions ranging

from career advice to their take on immigration in America. One consistent piece of advice from

the panel to our students was to read and learn to ask questions and be critical thinkers.

IB Field Trip IB Field Trip

Last week our IB students were able to visit The Riverside Art Museum and The Cheech Marin

Center for Chicano Art & Culture. This enrichment trip was put into place because of student

interest related to the Extended Essay. Themes ranged from Chicano Camera Culture, to Being

Black and Brown in the Inland Empire as well as a range of pieces from Cheech’s personal

collection. Photo credit to Aiden Ho.
