Why Teach Kindness?

Kindness is a social-emotional competency that not only benefits those who receive it, but also those who give it! Being kind produces a greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem in students. Forming meaningful connections through acts of kindness can lead to improved health and less stress, as we know relationships are a big indicator in the mental well-being of students. We encourage you to talk with your child about kindness and explore the following books, activities, and links, to further support these conversations!

Friday, February 14th the Batchelder Student Council will be hosting a school spirit day titled, "Kindness is Love." Students and staff are encouraged to wear pink, red, purple, white, or any clothing apparel that makes them feel happy!

The Power of Kindness

The Power of Kindness

Kindness breaks language barriers, touches people from all distances, and unites us all—different or alike. Focused on the physiological and physical benefits of being kind, Raegan dives deep into central themes such a honesty, humility and being "harmless." She shows data and statistics that demonstrate that people who enacts kindness may be the biggest beneficiaries. This talk is about helping others, but it also about self-help and mental health.

A collaboration by Ms. Petrie and Ms. Callanen

Our monthly newsletters will bring together literacy and social emotional learning. Each newsletter will focus on a different theme of SEL with picture books to support the message. It is our hope to reach as many students, teachers, parents, and reading enthusiasts as possible. We encourage you to forward and share this with friends and family to continue our mission to encourage fostering strong ties to our community for our children and their loved ones!
