Week of Sept. 21, 2026 Week of Sept. 21, 2026

Dear Skyline Students and Families,

What a week it has been at Skyline! Homecoming Week has been filled with school spirit, connection, and plenty of opportunities for our Eagles to come together as a community. From spirit days and activities throughout the week to today’s pep rally, it has been wonderful to see our students showing the Skyline spirit.

Thursday brought one of our favorite events of the year, the T. Wall Carnival. More than 200 Skyline students joined approximately 150 students with special needs from across the district for a morning filled with music, games, dancing, laughter, and lots of smiles. This event is always a highlight of our year, and we are grateful to the many students and staff members who helped make it such a success.

Today, we celebrated together at our pep rally before heading into tonight’s Homecoming Parade and football game. We hope families will join us along the parade route and at the game as we cheer on our Eagles!

And the celebration continues tomorrow with the Homecoming Dance from 8:00–11:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 and will be available for purchase at the door by cash or check. Students must have their school ID with them to attend the dance.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this such a memorable week. We are proud of the energy, joy, and sense of community our students have brought to Homecoming Week. Go Eagles!

Go Eagles!

Reminders for Tonight's Homecoming Football Game v. Huron Reminders for Tonight's Homecoming Football Game v. Huron

Tonight, Friday, September 18, is Skyline High School’s Homecoming game against Huron High School. Due to historically high attendance at this event, we anticipate reaching the stadium’s maximum capacity.

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please plan to arrive early. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. Once the stadium reaches maximum capacity, admission will be closed, including for individuals who have purchased tickets in advance. Purchasing a ticket prior to the game does not guarantee admission, as attendance is based on the number of individuals who enter the stadium.

Gates will close at halftime. This is earlier than our normal practice due to the anticipated high attendance. There will also be no re-entry once you leave the stadium.

Admission & Entry

  • Skyline and Huron students may enter free of charge with a valid Student ID.

  • Middle school students must be accompanied by an adult and must purchase a ticket.

  • Huron students and guests should enter through the Northwest Gate near the baseball field.

  • No bags, outside food, or beverages will be permitted inside the stadium.

  • There will be no re-entry once you leave the stadium.

Stadium Expectations

For the safety of our students, spectators, and staff, sitting, standing, or playing on the grass hills is not permitted. This expectation will be strictly enforced by the Ann Arbor Police Department, security personnel, and AAPS Administration.

As we prepare for tonight, please review these important reminders. Our goal is for all students to enjoy the event while representing Skyline High School with pride and respect.

  • Student ID required: Students must be able to provide their Student ID hard copy or digital.

  • No bags or backpacks: Bags and backpacks are not permitted inside the venue.

  • Stay in designated areas: Students should remain in designated spectator areas and may not enter the field of play, wander through the building, or access restricted areas.

  • Move safely: No running or loitering in traffic-flow areas.

  • Follow directions: Students must follow the directions of all staff, administration, event personnel, and officials.

  • Positive sportsmanship: Cheer respectfully, use appropriate language, avoid profanity, and support our team and the opposing team appropriately.

  • Stay focused on the game: Students should remain in designated seating areas and avoid disruptive behavior.

  • Alcohol- and substance-free event: Alcohol, drugs, and other prohibited substances are not permitted.

  • Weapons-free campus: Weapons are not permitted, including toy or replica weapons.

  • Disruptive behavior: Students who engage in disruptive behavior may be removed from the event and may have their spectator privileges suspended.

Student Pickup

Parents and guardians, please ensure that you have a plan to pick up your student promptly after the game. Students who are not picked up in a timely manner may have their spectator privileges suspended.

Thank you for helping us ensure that our students have a safe, positive experience and represent Skyline High School well. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in helping us provide a safe, positive, and enjoyable Homecoming experience for our students, families, and community.

Updates to Work Permits- Will No Longer Be Obtained Through the School Updates to Work Permits- Will No Longer Be Obtained Through the School

New Online Tool Coming Soon for Youth Employment Permits

MDE is sharing the following message from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity:

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is preparing to launch the new Youth Employment Permit Portal, a centralized online system that will modernize the state’s youth employment permit process and make it more convenient and accessible for minors, families and employers. Local school districts and nonpublic schools will no longer issue youth employment permits.

Beginning Oct. 2, employers and minors will use the new portal to complete the youth employment permit process through one statewide system. To help employers, schools, families and other stakeholders prepare for the transition, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity will host a Youth Employment Permit Portal webinar on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 2–3:30 p.m. ET. For additional information and updates, visit Michigan.gov/YouthEmployment.

Skyline Students Love to Read!

Skyline students have already checked out 932 books this school year! This number represents hundreds of students choosing to read, discover new stories, explore new ideas, and find books that speak to them.

Our library team works closely with ELA, Social Studies, and World Language teachers to build a culture of reading throughout our school. In the first two weeks of the 26-27 school year, students visited the library from English 9–12, AP Lang, English Language Learning, History of the Holocaust, and French classes for book selection and library orientation activities.

Over 900 books as of Tuesday morning! We’re so proud to see our students embracing reading, and we can’t wait to see where that number ends up in June!

PSAT/NMSQT for 11th Grade Students

Students will also participate in a Digital Readiness Check during Skytime on September 30 to make sure they are able to log in successfully, be familiar with the testing platform and prepared for test day.

How Can Families Help?

A few simple steps can help students feel prepared:

  • Encourage your student to get a good night's sleep before testing.

  • Make sure they arrive at school on time and are ready for the testing day.

  • Encourage students to bring their charged school-issued MacBook as directed by Skyline.

  • Remind students to listen carefully to testing instructions and take their time.

  • Remind students to listen, read and get familiar with the information shared in the coming weeks so they're fully prepared

  • Encourage students to approach the assessment as an opportunity to practice, learn, and demonstrate what they know.

Additional information about the PSAT/NMSQT, including what students can expect on the assessment, is available through College Board's PSAT/NMSQT information.

Thank you for partnering with us as we prepare our students for a successful testing experience!

Action Needed: Education Benefit Forms for All Families Due October 1st Action Needed: Education Benefit Forms for All Families Due October 1st

Please take a moment to complete the form and return it to your student’s school. The Education Benefits Form collects information needed to ensure the school receives state and federal funding for education programs. Without this information, our school could lose important funding for education programs that our students need. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:

· Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids)

· Teaching supplies and materials

· Counselors and Social Workers

· School Nurses

· Professional Learning for staff

· Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities

· Technology

Why is the school requesting financial information?

The Education Benefits Form determines eligibility of a student or household. The total count of eligible students is used to determine the funding amounts that will be made available to a school. The more forms returned the better.

What do I need to do?

Please complete the form linked below. Families only need to fill on ONE form, listing all their children.

What else might my student or household be eligible for?

Based on the information you provide on your Education Benefits Form, your child may qualify for other programs such as:

· Pay to play or Pay to Participate

· Programs that provide food support

· Programs that provide field trip support

· Programs that provide school supplies or assist with school fees

· Programs that provide holiday support

· Potential household support for cable and internet

Philosophy

The Ann Arbor Board of Education believes that regular and punctual attendance by students results in greater levels of student achievement in a safe, secure, and orderly school, in higher staff and student morale, and in better preparation for post-high school life.

An essential part of all education takes place through social interaction that one cannot learn from studying texts. While independent work and/or research is vital, it is equally important to hear lectures, participate in activities and discussions, be exposed to other peoples’ ideas, and work with non-print materials. For this reason, daily attendance and participating in class is crucial and will impact student performance positively.

Students and their parents/guardians should understand that excessive absences, whether excused or unexcused, might often drastically affect class grades. Successful students are seldom absent.

Extended Absence Form (3 days or more OR 1 or 2 days before/ after a school vacation/break)

Form must be turned in and signed by all teachers and SLC Administrator 5 days prior to the first day missed. Please download the Extended Absence Form by clicking HERE.

Procedures

Students are expected to be in class, punctual, and prepared to participate in the learning process every day. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential if students are to make use of the educational opportunities in high school.

Excused Absences

To excuse an absence a student’s parent/ guardian must notify the school of the student’s absence within 48 hours with an acceptable reason.

Parents/guardians may excuse absences only for the following reasons:

1. Personal illness

2. Illness of an immediate family member

3. Death of a family member or close friend

4. Verified medical or dental appointment

5. Verified legal proceedings

6. Emergency removal for administrative reasons

7. Suspension from school

8. Approved school-sponsored or school-related activity

11. Observance of a religious holiday

Additional Notes

The grade level administrator must pre-approve absences for family travel/college visits to allow for make-up privileges. Families are expected to completely fill out a “Request for Extended Absence” form and turn it in at the SLC level office in advance.

Once an extended absence is approved, the student has the responsibility to make the appropriate arrangements with his/her teachers.

When leaving during your scheduled school hours with permission, the student must check out at the student entrance CA desk.

Students may not be excused from class in order to remain in school to study for a test, go to the media center, complete make-up work, or attend some other in-school activity.

Students who arrive after the beginning of their school day or who return after checking out must arrive at the student entrance and present their school iD for entry.

Excused Absence Procedure

When reporting an absence, please be prepared to leave the following information:

1. Student’s name

2. I.D. Number

3. Grade Level

4. Date(s) and time(s) of absence

5. Reason for absence(s)

6. Your name and relationship to the student

Unexcused Absences

Unexcused absences are those absences where the student fails to attend class and the parent or guardian has not notified the school in accordance with the required attendance procedures.

Make-up Work

Teachers must allow students to make up work due to excused absences. Two days will be granted for the make-up of one day’s excused absence. Students are expected to take the initiative in asking teachers for make-up work.

Tardies (Excused and Unexcused)

Students have a responsibility to arrive on time. An unexcused tardy occurs when a student arrives after the bell rings without an acceptable excuse.

Consequences for unexcused tardiness will be in accordance with the provisions of the AAPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and the Skyline Student and Family Handbook.

Parent Notification

The primary method of notification arrives through a computerized message system to notify families of unexcused absences; parents can monitor through Powerschool for real time attendance. Parents may call the appropriate SLC office for student attendance records if needed. The primary responsibility for maintaining good attendance belongs to students and their families.

HR Imaging will be back at Skyline on October 14, 2026, during the 1st trimester, for additional photo retakes.

Electronic ID Cards

We will also have an electronic ID card option available, which we strongly recommend for all students to pair with their hardcopy ID. Students with personal devices will be able to scan a QR code that can be downloaded and used as their school ID.

The electronic ID can be used for a variety of purposes, including:

  • Entering after-school events

  • Entering the school building during the school day for late arrivals

Student & Family Handbook Student & Family Handbook

Please Review the Student & Family Handbook

As we begin a new school year, we ask all students and families to take some time to read and review the Skyline High School Student & Family Handbook. The handbook contains important information about school expectations, policies, procedures, student responsibilities, attendance, academic guidelines, safety, and the many resources available to support our students. Taking the time to become familiar with this information will help ensure that everyone understands what is expected and knows where to turn when questions arise. Clear is Kind, and making sure our students and families have a shared understanding of our expectations is an important part of creating a safe, supportive, and successful school community. Please review the handbook together and reach out to us if you have any questions.

Student & Family Handbook linked here

Traffic Flow Traffic Flow

Please share this info with other family members or friends who may be picking-up or dropping-off students like you:

THE SPEED LIMIT WHILE ON CAMPUS IS 10 MPH. Please drive slowly for the safety of all!

Students arriving to school should be dropped off at the Student Entrance using the parent drop-off loop ONLY. Students will be required to present their student ID (physical or digital) upon entry to the building. Students who have already been called out and approved for early dismissal should be picked up at the parent pick-up loop at any time during the school day. The only time a student will be picked up at the main office is if a parent/guardian is coming in to pick up a student and this early release has not previously been called into the attendance line or front desk.

Morning Arrival/Drop Off:

PLEASE PACK YOUR PATIENCE and be kind! If you are turning into the parent drop-off loop, you should be in the left lane along the stadium. You should not be crossing over traffic to turn into the parent drop-off loop. The drop-off loop is ONE LANE ONLY! Students are exiting vehicles and we do not want cars driving past them as they are exiting their vehicles. There are barricades in the inner lane for a reason, please do not ignore them. We are doing our best to move people forward and to keep the line moving as quickly as possible. Please drive around other children how you would want others to drive around your child.

The parent drop-off loop is a constantly moving line. We ask that you ALWAYS pull forward in the loop as far as possible and do not stop right in front of the school as this slows down the line and causes unnecessary delays. There is no parking and sitting in the loop. If you need to sit and wait for your child, we ask that you move to a parking spot near the baseball fields or tennis courts to wait for them there, not in the loop.

When you arrive in the loop at drop-off in the morning, your child should be prepared to quickly grab their belongings and hop out of the vehicle as soon as you are able to come to a complete stop in the loop. This could occur at any spot in the loop, not only directly in front of the school. The line should constantly be moving forward for a continuous flow through.

END OF THE DAY PICK UP:

PLEASE PACK YOUR PATIENCE and be kind! If you are turning into the parent pick-up loop, you should be in the left lane along the stadium. You should not be crossing over traffic to turn into the parent pick-up loop.

We understand that students come out at somewhat staggered times at dismissal. For this reason, we ask that you communicate with your child about their after-school plan. If they are coming directly out to the car at dismissal, please move forward as far as possible and continue moving forward as traffic moves. If they are not coming out right at the end of the day, please do not pull into the parent pick-up loop until your child is coming out and park in a parking spot near the baseball fields or tennis courts until they are ready to exit the school.

So that we can allow those who have already picked up their students to exit, only at the end of the day, we will allow the inner lane after the end curve closest to the school to be used to pass cars that are still waiting on their child. Please drive slowly, use your turn signals, watch for merging traffic, and pay close attention to students as you exit the pick up loop. There will only be one lane of traffic exiting the pick-up loop. When exiting, you should remain in the left lane.

For this plan to work safely and efficiently, it's essential that everyone adheres to the designated drop-off areas and traffic flow. Dropping off students in non-designated areas not only disrupts the traffic flow but also creates potential safety hazards for students walking in areas where pedestrian traffic is not expected. Do not drop students off in the student parking lot, this is not a student drop off location and creates dangerous traffic patterns that the space is not intended for. Our students consistently complain about parents dropping off in the student parking lot.

Skyline has designed its traffic flow plan to optimize the use and safety of our roadways and parking areas. The road surrounding the stadium, baseball fields, tennis courts, and school will operate as a one-way route. Please refer to the diagram above for detailed traffic directions. Areas marked with blue arrows indicate one-way traffic, while sections with both blue and orange arrows are the only locations on campus where two-way traffic is permitted.

The east side drop-off loop will continue to be used exclusively for parent drop-offs, and the west side loop will remain reserved for buses only. Please note that parking is prohibited in both loops at all times.

A few years ago Mr. O, Payton, and Valencia made this short video to help you understand the traffic flow on campus. It states "2024 - 2025" at the beginning, but the video remains valid: Video linked here

Notes from Nurse Mary Notes from Nurse Mary

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! My name is Mary Delis and I am entering my ninth year of school nursing and my second year at Skyline. I look forward to working with you and your students this school year.

Please reach out to me if you have any health updates or questions.

If your student requires medication or emergency medication (epi pens, albuterol inhaler, etc) to be kept at school, AAPS medication administration policy requires updated documentation each school year.

Please have Action Plans (Asthma, Food or Seizure) completed by your healthcare provider and submitted to me via email or in paper form.

If your student does not have a specific plan, please see links for AAPS order forms. I recommend that families choose the Self-Administration option for their students at the high school level. Exceptions may apply in some situations - students may not carry controlled substances under any circumstances. Please reach out to me if you have any concerns. I also recommend that students keep a copy of documentation with their self-carry medication at school.

AAPS Medication Administration Forms

Please see AAPS Medication Policy for details on medication submission.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Does my student qualify for a bus?

Students qualify for AAPS bus transportation if they live 1.5 miles or farther from Skyline High School.

About the Bus Stops

Students may be required to walk up to 1/2 mile to reach their stop. Most stops are a few blocks from home. Students must be at the stop at least 5 minutes before the posted arrival time. Buses will not wait. If your student isn't there when the bus arrives, the bus will continue with its route.

Track the bus - Versatrans My Stop App (free)

  • Download free from any app store to plan for on-time or late arrivals and avoid missed pickups.
  • Login: your student's Student ID. Password: your Family ID (your school provides both).
  • The Family ID is the same for all students in your family. If your children ride different routes, you can toggle between them in teh app.
  • Note: there is a 1-2 minute GPS lag, and the bus won't appear until it has left the garage. Start checking about 20 minutes before arrival.
  • Learn more about My Stop here.

AAATA Bus Passes for Eligible Students AAATA Bus Passes for Eligible Students

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is pleased to offer eligible high school students an AAATA bus pass if they live within the AAATA service area, and live further than 1.5 miles from their assigned high school. AAPS does not provide AAATA bus passes to In-District Transfer or School of Choice students. These students can apply for a Space Available seat on an existing bus route. You can apply at this link:AAPS Space Available Application

Eligible students can pick up their bus pass during registration or at the main office. If you are uncertain weather your student is eligible for a bus pass, you can check the Attendance by Street Directory . There is an "A" after the street name/address if your student's address qualifies for an AAATA bus pass.

AAATA bus passes are good for two (2) trips per day, Monday - Friday during the school year.
