LET'S GET READY FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
Leading with Purpose & Passion
Booker Believers,
I am so excited about this school year! It is time to prepare our minds and hearts for another extraordinary year of purpose, passion, progress, and possibilities! Bengals, let’s embrace this new school year with POSITIVITY and a GROWTH MINDSET! This year, we are TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS like Bengals; following big dreams, making bold moves, and igniting brilliant minds to prepare our scholars for the best future possible! Getting Booker Better Faster with more Bengals in MEETS & MASTERS!
Last year, we started with a target on our back (that ugly "F")! But, you helped us define that letter grade into a school movement FUELED WITH FIRE! We led a campus of committed educators not FEELING THE WEIGHT of that leeter grade! Everyone stamped the belief that we would NOT have that grade FOR LONG! Every day, every weekend and every moment, we strived for excellence and exceeded all expectations!
BOOKER is officially a TEA "B" RATED SCHOOL! Because of your continued support, the relentless efforts from your children, and the dedication of all our staff members, WE DID IT! LO HICIMOS!
Congratulations to us!! We weathered our storm together! WELL DONE, BENGALS! WELL DONE!
Together, we will continue "Getting Booker Better Faster, by increasing Meets & Masters! Each of you is a GOLDEN TICKET to our continued success, and I look forward to another incredible year of all of us DOING OUR BOOKER BEST!
REMEMBER: One Family. One Focus. One Fact: BOOKER IS BACK and we are just getting started!
With Bengal Pride,
Keisha Womack, Principal

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes must be submitted in writing with a parent signature or in person, prior to 2:30pm of the effective date. It is recommended that you send a note with your child if you need to change transportation. Please follow up on Class Dojo with your teacher to ensure he/she has received the note. We will not take any transportation changes over the phone. You may fax your request with a copy of your ID to 281-891-8751 and call to confirm receipt. If you have an emergency and need to change your transportation for safety reasons, you will need to call the front office and speak with one of our receptionists. They will and then email your request with your ID to the person you spoke with, by 2:30pm.
Tardies - We are asking for all students to transition to class by 7:55am.
The car rider line will close promptly at 7:59 am. Any students arriving at 8 am or after will need to be signed in by a parent. You will need to park, sign in the front office with a valid ID. Classes start promptly at 8:05am.
Early Pick Ups - Parents must sign students out with valid ID and provide a reason for leaving.
Please be mindful that we are required by law to be in attendance for at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, including intermissions and recess. Early pickups must be completed by 2:30pm.
Absences - If your child misses a day, please provide a note informing the attendance clerk, the reason for the absence, sign and date and send it to school with your child, the following day. Parent letters are not required if your child has a doctor's excuse. Parents have 3 days to send in excuses so that attendance records can be resolved into excused/unexcused absences. Remember that notes only provide us the documentation and coding of the absence: Notes do not dismiss absences. The state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the time to avoid penalty.
Lunch Visits/Lunch Deliveries - Booker is closed for lunch visits and lunch deliveries. If your child forgets his/her lunch kit, please drop off their lunch kit in the front office before 9:45am, to ensure our staff has ample time to deliver it to them before their scheduled lunch time. Lunch visits are on hold to allow our teachers, staff, and students to get acquainted with being back in school and establishing our systems and routines. We are looking at ways to involve parents in lunch visits without jeopardizing the safety of our scholars and our instructional focus. Stay tuned!
Birthdays - You are more than welcome to celebrate your child's birthday by sending prepacked goodies and/or store bought cupcakes (sealed) with your child or dropping them off at the front office. Your ID is required. No balloons or bouquets allowed.
SAFETY FIRST!
BUS RIDERS
- All bus riders must have their Smart Tag IDs before loading the bus
- PreK and Kinder students will only be allowed off the bus with their pin numbers
- No cell phone use on the bus
- All students must comply with bus rules and procedures

Parents...
We would like to increase our parent participation in schools and would like to see YOU volunteer this year! We have lots of opportunities for you to serve and would like to even KICK START OUR PTO again! If you're interested in
SERVING ON THE PTO BOARD (Elected board members, meeting monthly)
SERVING AS A MEMBER ONLY (Donate $10 per family, get membership gift, Booker PTO newsletters, voting rights and opportunities to serve on committees such as Student Success, Field Day, etc.)

We would love to have you! Please complete both forms to volunteer at Booker Elementary! It is important to do both forms. One is tailored just for us and specifies what you'd like to do as a volunteer and the other application is a district mandate for all Volunteers in Schools.
