Week of October 27
Math: This week students will review what they learned about place value in the last 7 lessons and take their Topic 2 assessment. Then, they will head into adding and subtracting decimals.
Literacy: While reading Esperanza Rising this week, students will continue to go back and close reading scenes to analyze different character reactions to the same situations. They will continue to compare reactions and write analysis paragraphs with text evidence. Students will also continue to make connections to the UDHR, as well as look at metaphors and themes in the text.
Social Studies: Students will continue their Biztown work on career readiness. They will finish up their interviews and hopefully get their position in the next few days. Please note, not every student will get the job they wanted most, but I can assure you every student will get a job that fits their skills and interests and that is an essential job needed to help Biztown run. The 5th grade teachers are working together to make sure everyone has a good fit.
Biztown Publicity form: Please look out for this form coming home to be signed regarding publicity consent while at our Biztown field trip. Thanks.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL): We are continuing to talk about respect and are focusing on respecting ourselves.
Friday, October 31
Happy Halloween! Students can bring costumes to change into after lunch if they'd like. Please make sure their costume and accessories are things students can handle on their own. Also, please note that no fake weapons of any sort may come into school. We will be having a class party in the afternoon and then will be walking around the school in a Halloween Parade at 2:30 just before dismissal. A big thank you to Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Rosenfield, and Mrs. O'Brien for volunteering to run the Halloween Party.
