Monarch Messenger
May 23, 2025
Dear MoHi Families,
As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to start by saying “Thank You” for everyone’s continued support, and partnership throughout the MoHi school community. It has been another amazing year with incredible moments of success, and we are proud of our students’ hard work and accomplishments.
Looking ahead to the next school year, there are going to be more opportunities for success, but also some obstacles we need to address. We want to be transparent about important impacts on our scheduling and class offerings. Due to continued statewide budget shortfalls, we are facing realities like reductions to teacher staffing for the second straight year. As a result, we will not be able to offer the full range of elective courses that we had hoped, and class sizes in core subjects will be larger than in previous years.
We remain committed to providing students with a meaningful and engaging educational experience, but we must also be clear about the limitations these staffing challenges create. Specifically, we need student and parent understanding around:
Course schedules will be more constrained. Not all elective requests will be able to be honored. Some courses had to be cut completely, while others are at their max capacity with no room for additions.
Schedule change requests will be limited. Students should not anticipate changes when seeking preferences like a specific teacher, asking for a desired off period, or changing levels of a course. We have class sizes that are as high as 36-38 students in some classes, with no room to move students around because of preferences.
We understand this may be disappointing, and we share in that feeling. Please know that our counselors and staff will continue working hard to build schedules that support students' academic goals and meet post-secondary or graduation requirements. We do not want this message to be all “doom and gloom”, but wanted to set realistic expectations when students gain access to their schedules in the fall. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience, knowing we won’t be able to have the same flexibility people have come to expect.
Our other opportunity that is presenting some obstacles is our summer construction work. Starting on Monday, May 26th, and all the way through Friday, August 1st, our entire campus will be closed for the summer because of construction. This means no staff, students, or community members will have access to any of our facilities. Summer school, athletic camps, and administrative offices will be spread to different sites at other schools in Louisville and Superior.
Despite the inconvenience of summer construction, everyone should be excited to come back to some updated spaces and some fresh newness to the halls of Monarch. Highlights of the amazing things you can expect to see when students return include:
New athletic training room and space to grow a Health Sciences pathway
Upgrades to the Engineering, Digital Design, and Culinary classrooms for their programs
Addition of dedicated music recording arts classes and film/video production spaces
Renovation of the back of the current cafeteria with increased access to the patio
New furniture and increased flow to hallways from the Student Center and MoHi perk
Renovation of academic area bathrooms to make gender neutral options accessible
New carpet and paint for the administrative offices, classrooms, and library
Outside we get a new turf athletic field, redone track, and parking lot resurfaced
Fixes to our HVAC system to improve heating and cooling capacities
So the theme for the start of the 2025-26 school year will be “Adapting to Obstacles while Embracing Opportunities”. We hope everyone has a safe and restful summer. We will see you all back on August 13th and 14th when we welcome our incoming 9th graders and then all students back to MoHi and our new spaces.

Both classes are offered online. We're waiting to hear if they will be asynchronous or if there will be meeting times. Any meeting times would be after 4:15 pm on one or two school days.
