Dear Panther Families

I hope this message finds you well! As we continue through the school year, I want to remind you of the importance of staying engaged with your child's academic progress. One of the best tools at your disposal is Schoology, our online platform for tracking grades, assignments, attendance, and overall performance.

Through Schoology, you can check your childโ€™s grades in real time, review feedback on assignments, and see where additional support might be needed. Regularly checking your studentโ€™s progress allows for early identification of challenges and opportunities for growth.

To access Schoology, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit www.schoology.com and log in using your parent credentials.

  2. If you do not yet have an account, please contact the school office for assistance in setting one up.

  3. Once logged in, you will be able to view up-to-date information on your child's classes and grades.

For those with mobile devices, there is a free app available for Schoology

Encouraging your child to take ownership of their learning, while offering them your support, is key to their success. If you notice any concerns or have questions about specific grades or assignments, do not hesitate to reach out to your childโ€™s teacher. Communication between school and home is crucial in helping our students thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we can ensure that every student has the tools and support they need to succeed this year.

Principal

Dear GEMS Families,

As we enter the month of October, I am looking forward to events and opportunities for students to get involved at school. Read further about the opportunities, there are many ways for your student to participate and grow here at GEMS.

However, I would also like to remind all families and students that horseplay is not permitted on campus. While it may seem harmless at first, it often escalates into situations where someone gets hurt or, in some cases, leads to more serious conflicts. Letโ€™s work together to keep our school a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

In addition, I encourage students to leave personal items, such as expensive electronics or valuable belongings, at home. My goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, but far too often, time is spent searching for lost items or addressing issues involving damaged property. This includes cell phones, which should remain off and out of sight during the school day.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to make GEMS a positive, safe, and engaging place for all students!

Go Panthers!

Mrs. Fernandez, Assistant Principal

ASB - LEADERSHIP NEWS!! ASB - LEADERSHIP NEWS!!

Recap September events:

Leadership hosted their first dance of the year Welcome to the Jungle on September 13th. We had over 400 students show up between the two dances!!

Students were able to take pictures at our photo backdrops, get a jungle temporary tattoo, enjoy a tasty treat from the snack bar, and dance the night away with some great music. Students also participated in our schools first spirit week where we saw a lot of great outfits showing off our school spirit.

OCTOBER EVENTS:

October is going to be a busy month for us as we have Red Ribbon week this month, and our annual October family event.

Red Ribbon Week: Oct 23, 2024 - Oct 31, 2024

Red Ribbon week happens yearly in October and it is to help schools and students be drug free. We will be doing a door decorating contest, from October 16 - Oct 30, 2024. This will give PAW classes two weeks to come up with an idea and to complete their door decorating. We will also be doing our 2nd rally of the year on Oct 18. This rally will be to kick off Red Ribbon week and our Spirit Week.

Harvest Faire - Oct 25th, 2024

We will be having our 3rd annual Family Harvest Faire. This event will be open to all of GEMS families, and will be taking place on Friday Oct 25, 2024 from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Students and families are welcome to attend and are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Leadership will be creating fun games and booths for all to participate in. Additional information will be coming in the following week as the event gets closer.

TUTORING - HOMEWORK HELP NOW AVAILABLE TUTORING - HOMEWORK HELP NOW AVAILABLE

GEMS is offering After-School Homework support in the library. We will have students from Lincoln High School offering support from 3:00-4:00. Adult supervision will be present, and this support is available on a drop-in basis. Going forward homework support will be offered Tuesday-Friday.

ACCESS TO MORE FUNDING ๐Ÿ’ฒ ACCESS TO MORE FUNDING ๐Ÿ’ฒ

We are asking all of our families to complete the Funding Formula Data Collection form this year so that we are eligible to secure additional funding for our school designed to support all students. Some students will 'qualify' for free/reduced lunch benefits by completing this form - although lunch is already free for all GEMS students, 'qualifying' allows your student to receive reduced price activities, field trips, and other school related events.

Your participation is key to our success. We only need one form per family. If you have already completed the form for a student at a different site, the District Office will reconcile the data.

You can complete it one of three ways:

  1. Log into PowerSchool. Under โ€œStudent Forms,โ€ there is a tab titled โ€œGeneral Form.โ€ It is the second form down, Titled Funding Formula Data Collection
  2. Come by GEMS and our Parent Liaison Paola can assist you.
  3. Call us at 916-645-6370, and we can help record the information with you!

EVENT ATTENDANCE & EXPECTATIONS EVENT ATTENDANCE & EXPECTATIONS

We are hoping to address some recent concerns regarding student behavior at after-school events. Unfortunately, we have experienced several instances of disrespect toward GEMS school players, parents, staff, and visiting teams during these events. Such behavior is not in line with the values and expectations we hold as a school community.

We believe that these events should be a positive experience for all who attend, including our students, families, staff, and visitors. To help maintain this atmosphere, some students who have not met our behavioral expectations have lost the privilege of attending after-school events. If and when their behavior warrants that they can earn this privilege back, a parent or guardian must accompany the student if they choose to attend a future event.

Please be aware that all students attending after-school events are expected to follow the school's guidelines for respectful behavior. Failure to do so may result in the loss of their privilege to attend future events, along with other possible consequences.

Your support in reinforcing these expectations is greatly appreciated. Together, we can ensure that our school activities provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Assistant Principal
