Attention District 30 parents and guardians! Tomorrow, September 12, District 30 will test our emergency notification system in the afternoon. Anyone listed under your child’s primary and secondary contacts, as well as the email address used to login into Parent Portal, should receive a voice notification, text and email.

If you need to update your telephone number or email address, please visit the ParentPortal. (Go to the Forms section of and choose the option that says “Update Contact Information for District Communications.”)

Now is also a is a great time to review Emergency Procedures page for parents that outlines weather emergency protocols in District 30 at district30.org/emergency. When winter weather approaches, District 30 would utilize our emergency notification system to announce any school closures, while also posting on our website and social media channels.

Universal speech screenings start Sept. 14 Universal speech screenings start Sept. 14

  • Kindergarten speech screenings will be conducted the week of September 14.

  • The primary purpose of the speech screening is to identify speech sound errors.

  • Additional screenings for concerns with receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language, voice, or fluency will be available at parent and/or teacher request.

Parents will be notified if their child does not pass the screening (based on District 30 criteria) or if developmentally appropriate errors are noted. If the screening results indicate additional assessment and/or speech therapy support, you will be contacted by one of the Speech-Language Pathologists.

District 30’s preschool screenings are also held at Willowbrook School. These screenings, designed to identify preschool-age children who may benefit from special education support prior to Kindergarten, are conducted throughout the school year. If you would like to schedule a screening for your preschool child, please contact Student Services Administrative Assistant Tiffani Cuneo at 847-498-8964.

In our latest video, learn how iPads are implemented in the classroom, with a balance between traditional and technological learning that enhances the lessons, while also teaching children to be responsible digital navigators.

Please click below to watch the video and click here to explore a parent handbook that also answers frequent questions on our One-to-One iPad program. In the coming weeks, please watch this newsletter as we continue to highlight the rest of the video series.

Parent Power-Up:

Organization is a skill that develops over time. Parents and guardians can support school success by helping children develop systems and routines rather than organizing everything for them. The goal is to build habits that transfer directly to school.

Ideas to Try:

  • Ask these questions:

    • "What do you need tomorrow?"

    • "How do you know you're prepared?"

    • “Have you checked your folder?”

    • “Is there anything special happening tomorrow?”

    • “Is your water bottle ready?”

    • “What's your plan for making sure your homework gets to school?”

    • “How do you know your backpack is ready?”

    • “Are your shoes, coat, and lunch ready?”

  • Spend five minutes each evening helping your child:

    • Empty their backpack

    • Organize papers

    • Pack materials for the next day

    • Return folders, library books, and the iPad to their backpack.

Any time a student feels unsafe, any adult in their school can help!

But sometimes, students or parents wish to reach out for help in a different way or after school hours. Safe2Help Illinois offers students a safe way to share information 24/7 that might help prevent any threat to school safety, including bullying, self-harm or other serious concerns.

The goal of this program is to get students to “seek help before harm;" it is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish. Safe2Help Illinois also offers a Mental Health Toolkit that provides resources for parents and educators reinforce the components of this program.

Safe2Help Illinois offers around-the-clock help via:

  • Hotline: 844-4-SAFEIL
  • Text line: 72332
  • Email HELP@Safe2HelpIL.com
  • Plus a website full of resources for young people seeking help for themselves or a friend. Its Ways To Get Help page is a directory of specialized hotlines, and other sections of its website provide practical steps for dealing with depression or helping a distraught friend.
