Peace and blessings to you all!
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” -Matthew 4:19
This simple invitation marks the very beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. In calling ordinary fishermen, Jesus shows us something profound; He notices people exactly where they are, invites them into a relationship, and entrusts them with responsibility for the greater good. From the very start, His ministry is rooted in connection, purpose, and service to others.
At St. Mary's, we strive to live out this same call. Each day, our students are invited to grow not only in knowledge, but in faith and character, learning to notice those around them, to build strong and respectful relationships, and to take responsibility for their learning and their community. Whether in classrooms, labs, athletics teams, or leadership opportunities, our school is a place where young people are encouraged to respond to Christ’s invitation to “come and follow” through their actions and choices.
A reminder to families that the EICS Assurance Surveys are now open. This is a valuable opportunity to meaningfully share your voice and help guide the continued growth of our school community. We appreciate your time and thoughtful feedback. Survey links were emailed to you this past week.
Semester 1 Final Unit Exams for students in Grades 9–12 take place this week on Thursday and Friday. Please see the schedule below for details. Grades 7/8 will continue with regular classes, and Semester 2 begins next Monday, February 2nd.
We are also excited to host our Senior Boys Basketball Tournament this weekend, and look forward to welcoming teams and fans to our school. The boys tip off at 1:30pm on Friday in our gym. The Sr. Girls are across the street at the Comp. Tournament this weekend, and heir first game is at 4:40pm in the VCHS gym. Thank you for everyone who signed up to volunteer next weekend.
Please note that there is no semester break on Wednesday. It is an instructional day for students.
Thank you for your continued partnership, prayers, and support as we journey together in faith and learning.
Have a wonderful week, and God bless.
With gratitude,
The STMY Administration Team

Final Exam Schedule
Winter is Here!
In the past couple of weeks, we have noticed that many of our students have not been dressed properly for the frigid and snowy conditions that are upon us. As winter weather sets in, we ask all students to dress appropriately for cold, snowy, and icy conditions. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and proper footwear are essential to ensure safety and comfort while traveling to and from school and during outdoor activities. While we appreciate our students' expression of style, Birkenstocks are best saved for warmer weather! They pair better with sunshine than snowbanks! Students will not be allowed to participate in fieldtrips, sports activities, etc., unless they are properly dressed! Thank you for your support in helping our students stay safe, warm, and ready to learn this winter.

Riley Warawa to Participate in World's Longest Hockey Game!
Riley Warawa, one of our Gr. 12 students at St. Mary's has the opportunity and the privilege to participate in the World Longest Hockey Game starting on February 5th and he needs your support!
On Thursday, February 5th, forty players, hundreds of volunteers, and countless fans will come together at centre ice to prove they have fire in their hearts and ice in their veins, with one shared goal: a future free of cancer.
The world's longest hockey game is an annual charity event in Alberta, Canada, organized by Brent Saik, which most recently lasted 262 continuous hours (11 days) in early 2024, setting a new Guinness World Record for a marathon hockey game to raise funds for children's cancer research and care, with players rotating shifts on an outdoor rink through extreme cold. Previous records by the same event included 252 hours in 2021, breaking their own 2018 record of 251 hours, with players enduring freezing temperatures to support the Alberta Children's Hospital and Cure Cancer Foundation.
If you would like to help Riley fundraise for this event, please click his fundraising link or scan the QR Code below. Way to go Riley! We are so proud to be rooting for you!
