Highland Community College Visit
Highland Community College will be on campus at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 4.
Highland Community College is located north of Kansas City, close to the Nebraska border. It is approximately 2 hours from Pleasanton. They will be on campus meeting with any student, but particularly those interested in Esports and the opportunities it provides for post secondary success.
Kansas Future Teachers Academy - Coming Soon!
Applications for the Kansas Future Teacher Academy are opening soon. This opportunity is available to any student in grades 9-11 who are interested in becoming a teacher. The KFTA offers two summer sessions, where students stay for a week at Emporia State University and learn about becoming a teacher in Kansas.
Interested in this opportunity? Check in with Mr. Nolan for the application process.
STUCO Blood Drive - November 15
The STUCO Blood Drive is right around the corner! Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
You can sign up to donate at our blood drive by selecting the link below and entering our zip code to find the Pleasanton Blood Drive.
Academic Watch/Probation - Procedures
Each Wednesday at 10:00, PHS checks the grades of all students, the first week a student receives an F, the student is moved to Academic Watch. Students on Academic Watch are notified by Mr. Sabine, and parents are notified via text message by Mrs. Conley. All teachers, coaches and sponsors additionally recieve notification of their students' status.
Students who persist on Academic Watch for longer than 3 weeks, are moved to Academic Probation on the 4th week. When a student moves to Academic Probation, a parent meeting is scheduled to discuss their student's progress or lack of progress. In order for the student to move back to "good standing", the parent meeting must be held and the student's grade must be a D or higher.
The intent of this system is to give students and teachers time to recover a student's grade, so that one test/quiz or assignment doesn't make a student ineligible. At the same time, the intent is to make sure that students are remaining in good standing throughout the school year and eligible for the next season.
If you need help checking your student's grades, please contact the high school office at 913-352-8701.
IMPACT Referrals - Take a moment to celebrate someone!
Impact Referral of the Week
To: Makya Neal-Cox
From: Erin Bowley
I ask you how you are every morning at our lockers, and you almost always say "terrible" or, "really bad". Sometimes, you're joking, other times, you're not. But whatever comes after that is what makes me laugh and that never fails. Thank you for putting a smile on my face at eight o'clock in the morning. You and Abbi combined are literally the best, especially in the mornings. So, thank you, Ky.
2024 - 2025 PHS Handbook
On August 12, 2024 the final version of the PHS Handbook was approved by the USD 344 Board of Education. You can find the handbook on our district website, or by clicking the link below.
Dress Code
The primary objective of PHS is to create an atmosphere in which each student can develop to the best of his/her potential. Students should appear at school in a manner that will allow them to function at the best level possible without interfering with the learning situation. This dress code applies not only to the school day but to all after-school activities and events.
The following is a minimum, which is expected:
1. Students are required to wear footwear.
2. All clothing must cover from armpit to armpit and from mid-thigh to mid-thigh at a fingertip length (front and back of clothing). Leggings may also be worn under clothing that does not meet the fingertip length rule.
3. Students may wear jeans and pants that are distressed, but all exposed skin (holes) must be below the fingertip line.
4. All shirts must have two straps and cover undergarments. Students will not be allowed to wear clothing that reveals undergarments of any kind.
5. Students will not be allowed to wear clothing that is designed primarily to be worn as undergarments. This includes tank tops, muscle shirts, or any shirt that has large armholes, which expose the chest or stomach of the student.
6. Students will not be allowed to wear hats and/or head coverings of any kind in the school building during regular school hours. The exception is on Hat Day, once a month.
7. All organizations reserve the right to regulate the appearance of their members provided this meets the administrative approval.
8. Students are prohibited from wearing sunglasses in school unless for medical reasons verified by a physician’s note. Prescription eyewear with tinted lenses 20 that adjust to the light level of the room is acceptable.
9. No shirts or apparel expressing sexual innuendos, rude statements, or promoting the usage of drugs, tobacco, or alcohol are to be worn to school or at school-related events. Additionally, clothing cannot be adorned with lettering, patches, or drawings that are offensive or are against the student's standards of excellence.
10. No blankets or pillows are allowed in the classrooms.
