Positive Behavioral Supports at Lilja

Dear Families,

We’re excited to invite you and your children to join our upcoming school-wide focus, Planet Protectors, centered on the important core value of Dependability. This special event helps students understand how being dependable means consistently caring for the Earth, knowing we rely on it—and it relies on us.

What Will This Look Like? What Will This Look Like?

    • Story time & Discussions: Students will read engaging books to learn about caring for our planet and being dependable protectors. They’ll explore how their everyday actions impact the Earth and each other.

    • Hands-On Clean-Up: Classes will work together to clean playgrounds, gardens, hallways, and more—practicing teamwork and responsibility firsthand.

    • Reflection & Sharing: After the clean-up, students will discuss their roles as Earth protectors and share what they learned and felt.

    • School Wide Activities: Classrooms will have a choice board of various activities that help them engage in being a Planet Protector and explore the theme of Dependability.

  • Sort recyclables from trash with your help

Ages 6–8

  • Set and clear the table

  • Help with recycling and composting

  • Care for pets or plants regularly

  • Pick up sticks or weed small garden areas

  • Pack and unpack backpacks

Ages 9–11

  • Take out trash and recycling bins

  • Assist with yard work or garden care

  • Plan family “zero waste” days

  • Pack own lunch

  • Help with household cleaning and meal prep

Activities to Do at Home Activities to Do at Home

  • Complete the Planet Protector Bingo Board! Our Planet Protector Bingo is an optional activity that invites families to care for the planet together while building the value of dependability. Each square encourages simple, everyday actions, like recycling, reducing waste, or keeping our community clean, that show how we can be people the Earth can count on. At the end of the month, students can return their completed page and share how they were dependable “Planet Protectors” at home.

    • Taking nature walks to observe or collect litter

    • Participating in a recycling challenge

    • Reading Earth Day books together and discussing dependability

Thank You for Being Dependable Earth Protectors!
Your support helps children understand the value of dependability—as caretakers of our planet and responsible members of their families and communities. Together, we can nurture pride and commitment to protecting our Earth every day.

Best,

The Lilja PBIS Team
