Principal Message
Dear Families,
We are only one week away from vacation, and we can certainly feel the excitement and energy building throughout the school!
As we approach this time, many student questions have centered around the upcoming school dance. We want to be sure families are informed of the expectations. This is a school-sponsored event, and all school policies and procedures will be in place. Students must follow the Windham School District dress code, and cell phones will not be allowed at the dance. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and technology-free environment where students can enjoy being kids, dancing with friends and making memories without the pressure of photos or videos. In addition, all students must attend school in order to attend the school dance. Staff will take some group pictures, which will be shared with families for those kids who wish to participate.
If your child is attending the dance, please plan for some delays during pick-up. We will take extra care to ensure that every student is safely matched with the correct ride home. Your patience and cooperation with the pick-up plan are greatly appreciated and essential to keeping the process smooth and safe. We will cross our fingers that it doesn't downpour during the dismissal process again this year.
Next week, we’re excited to celebrate Spirit Week as part of our countdown to vacation! This event is sponsored by Student Council so be sure to check out the flyer included below in the newsletter for daily themes and details.
Additionally, as mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we are continuing to address the misuse of technology at school. Students are expected to use their Chromebooks only for assigned academic tasks. At no point in time, should students be using their device for personal use.
Reminders
- A quick reminder that all items in the Lost and Found will be donated on April 24th. Please encourage your child to check the area near the gym to retrieve any belongings before they are gone.
- Progress report grades closed today, and grades along with teacher comments will be available in the parent portal on April 24th.
Finally, best of luck to any of our families participating in the 130th Boston Marathon this Monday. We will be cheering you on!
Sincerely,
B.J. Martin
Your Spring Cleaning Can Earn Money for WCS
Dear Parents/Guardians & WCS Students,
As the warmer weather arrives, we’d like to remind all students and families about the Windham School District dress code. All tops, midsections, and bottoms must be appropriately covered at all times.
If a student is not dressed according to the dress code, they will be asked to call home. If a parent or guardian is unable to bring appropriate clothing to school, the student will be asked to select an item from the clothing bin available in the nurse’s office.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a respectful and appropriate learning environment.
Mrs. Martin
Registration for the Windham School District Summer Camps
Registration for the Windham School District summer camps is now open! Visit the website today for more information. These camp programs will be available for all students for five weeks this summer. Students can try something new, plan with a friend, make new friends, and enjoy their summer adventures at any of our camps. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Tenhagen at WSD_SummerCamps@windhamsd.org.
Center School Field Day
The Center School Field Day is Monday June 8th (with a rain date of June 9th).
We are in need of parent volunteers for the Center School Field Day Monday June 8th (rain date Tuesday June 9th) to have a successful day. We have had great responses in the past, and hope this year will be the same.
Volunteers (with a staff member and possibly another parent) will lead a 30 minute station.
Assistance may also be provided from another teacher or staff member (who will rotate to that activity with their class). Directions/rules will be provided. Some stations are outside, some are inside, and activities range from "Name that Tune" to "Scooter Board Hockey" to Capture the Football”, so please bring sneakers and be ready for some fun!
If you are available to help for the entire school day from 7:45am-2:00pm please use the link below to register to volunteer.
Both the Vector Training (annually from the prior completion date) & the fingerprinting/background check must be completed/up-to-date to volunteer.
WCS Field Day Parent Volunteer Form
-We will confirm volunteers (as long as there is a cleared background on file with the district and the Vector training is complete), and more details will be emailed to you between a week prior to the event.
If you have not been cleared to volunteer with the district yet, please go to https://www.windhamsd.org/resources/parents/volunteer_information for instructions (the turn around time takes 3-4 weeks for fingerprints and background checks).
Please email with any questions.

PowerSchool Products
To help our parents and guardians feel more comfortable navigating the various PowerSchool products the district uses, the tech department will regularly share support and learning tools in the newsletters. We hope these tech tips, which will include a variety of videos, PDF instructions, deep dives, and quick tips, will help our community become more comfortable using our primary resources: MyPowerHub (The Hub), the PowerSchool Parent Portal, and the PowerSchool Mobile App. Additionally, these resources will be added to our website's Parent Technology Resource Center so you can revisit them at any time.
We are starting with a video overview of MyPowerHub. Click here to launch the video.
This overview highlights the version you access via a web browser. Just as a reminder, our Hub login URL is: https://windhamsd.guardian.powerschool.com/

Grade 5-STEAM-Edison Robots
Fifth-grade students are exploring robotics in STEAM class using Edison robots. They've designed tracks for the Edison robots to follow using line-tracking sensors, and created mazes, arenas, and “homes” that challenge the robots to navigate using different sensors and barcode-based programs. Next, students will use block-based coding to create their own programs with sound, movement, and obstacle detection. At home: Ask your child to define a “robot” and to name a few real-world examples.
