District breaks ground on new Wixom Elementary π«
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools officially broke ground on the brand-new Wixom Elementary School on Tuesday, November 11.
It was a brisk morning as local officials and dignitaries gathered to celebrate a bright and exciting future for students in Wixom, which was made possible with the passing of the 2024 Bond.
βToday marks the start of a new chapter for Wixom,β said Dr. Michael Lonze, Superintendent of Schools. βWeβre bringing a building to life that will fulfill our collaboration, vision and a shared belief we have for all of our children deserving the best learning environment.β
βItβs just so simple right now seeing that there is nothing here,β said Wixom Elementary principal Carrie OβConnell. βItβs just the ground and the soil and then seeing it grow I think is going to be amazing.β

Walled Lake Central kicks off annual Canned Food Drive π₯«
The Walled Lake Central student council kicked off its annual Canned Food Drive on Saturday by raising over $2,500 and collecting 2,536 pounds of food for the Hospitality House Food Pantry. That is nearly 1,000 more pounds of food than the opening day of the drive a year ago.
On kick off day, students went around to local neighbors to collect donations and then delivered them to the Hospitality House Food Pantry. Over the next two weeks, Walled Lake Central will continue to collect donations in the hopes of surpassing 30,000 total points. If the Vikings meet their goal, there will be no homework over Thanksgiving break.
Walled Lake Centralβs Canned Food Drive is the largest donation the Hospitality House Food Pantry receives each year.
If youβd like to donate, you can purchase items from the Vikingsβ Canned Food Drive Amazon Wishlist or drop items off at the bin in front of the main entrance at Walled Lake Central now through Friday, November 21.
WLTV students enjoy day at Ford Field learning about careers in broadcasting π₯
Walled Lake Televisionβs Advanced Media students soaked in a day full of learning and enjoyed a behind the scenes look at Ford Field on a trip to the 2025 Great Lakes Broadcast and Sports Media Academy.
Students had the opportunity to meet Detroit media professionals and learn about careers in broadcasting, as well as network with other high school and college media programs from across the state of Michigan. They even got to practice reading from Channel 4βs teleprompter, try a weathercast at the green screen and be a part of LTU Liveβs podcast.
Once the career sessions wrapped up, students enjoyed an all access tour of the home of the Detroit Lions. They visited the locker rooms, press conference room, and got to walk down the tunnel and out on the turf at Ford Field.
See more from WLTV's field trip by watching their video recap.
The Gators spreading positivity at Glengary π
Glengary Elementary started a Girls Positivity Club, which is an 8-week program for young ladies, starting in first grade. The club focuses on building confidence, belonging and leadership through crafts, connectivity and conversation. It teaches students about confidence, creativity, friendship and resilience to be able to express themselves positively.

Doug Goodwin honored with Golden Apple Award
Former Pleasant Lake Elementary paraeducator, Doug Goodwin, received a Golden Apple Award posthumously at the November 6, 2025 Board of Education meeting. Cheryl Goodwin, his wife and retired social worker for the district, accepted the award in his honor.
Goodwin was nominated by Pleasant Lake Elementary teachers, River Eubanks and Sarah Przybylo, because he loved to teach students new skills and watch them independently mark their goals.
βDoug always showed up to help with a smile on his face, even on the hardest days,β said Przybylo. βHe highlighted the good in the day, which always made students and staff laugh and smile.β
βDougβs passion for education and his willingness to go above and beyond made him a valuable asset to the district,β said Eubanks. βDoug was a positive role model for others by leading with integrity, professionalism and a strong commitment to excellence. He set a high standard through his dedication, work ethic and positive attitude, inspiring those around him to strive for their best. Doug approached challenges with determination and a proactive mindset, always seeking ways to improve and grow."
