Principal's Pen
One month in and things are in full swing. Elementary soccer is coming to an end, the volleyball season is in full swing and classes are starting to become real. So often it is this time of year where the senior classes start to pile up a bit as everyone tends to procrastinate a little at the beginning. We really encourage everyone to keep on top of things so as not to fall behind early. It is much easier to stay ahead, then to try to come from behind for the whole year.
This is also the return of our attendance policy. Anyone with less than 70% excused attendance will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular, so if you student needs to miss, please make sure you are phoning the office to let us know. We will be doing a check at the end of September to see where everyone is at.
For many on staff and those students the honeymoon period is over. Often the first few weeks all is good. People get to see friends that maybe they did not get to see all summer and everything is just being introduced. Now there is real expectations and work to be done and this can create a bit of a down turn as this is something they are no used to yet. This can be a stressful time and it is important that everyone recognize this early so it does not have a chance to build up. This is true for older grades as well as the younger grades. There are many kids are seeing school and the expectations that go along with it for the first time. It is important that the school and home work together to help deal with any stress or trouble before it grows.
With the return of extracurricular, it is encouraged that students find the thing that they wish to be a part of. It is important, however, to remember that these extra programs are a privilege and not a right. Any time that something is offered, it is important to understand that there is an expectation of behavior and if that is not met, then that privilege can be taken away. It is never something that we want to do, but it is important to recognize that when you are representing our school, you need to represent it in a way that reflects well on who we are.
Overall, it has been a great start to the year, and I want to thank all the staff, students, and community for all of the support that they have shown us over the last while to get back to this point.
Thanks,
Mr. Knot
