From the Principal From the Principal

Thank you for a great first full week of school! We have been able to get our students in some good routines, and our teachers have already been able to begin teaching new content.

Car Dismissal - Thank you so much for your patience as we get everyone used to our dismissal. All of the car lines seem to be going fairly smoothly.

3rd Grade Parents - We are not able to begin calling cars until about 2:40pm when buses are all dismissed. You may want to come a few minutes later, if you do not want to wait in line. We have been finishing calling the third grade car riders by about 2:47pm.

Bus - Remind your students to follow all bus rider expectations. We have a good many bus riders this year. If students do not follow these expectations, they will not be allowed to ride the bus.

If myself or Mrs. Lance can ever be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Mr. Fowler

Parent Tip Parent Tip

When should my child go to sleep?

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, students in 3-5th grade should get 9-12 hours of sleep per night. I would suggest setting a goal as a family to have a consistent bed time each night, and a consistent time for your child to wake up. This little adjustment can make your mornings go more smoothly, and your child to be more alert at school to learn new information.

iReady Diagnostic iReady Diagnostic

We will be taking our Fall iReady Reading Diagnostic on Tuesday and our Math Diagnostic on Thursday. Students will take this diagnostic in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. We are able to use this data to monitor their progress.

iReady Tips

  1. Sleep - Be sure to get your child in bed at a decent time.
  2. Breakfast - Eat breakfast at home or arrive to school early enough for breakfast at school
  3. Be Prompt - Arrive to school early
  4. Encourage - Encourage your child just to do their best and not to rush.

3rd Grade Reading

We had such a fun day today! We practiced independent reading time. The class read for 5 minutes without stopping. Our goal for third graders is for them to be able to read for 30 minutes. Setting aside some quiet time each day at home is a great way to help build their reading stamina.

4th Grade Science

In Science we discussed how scientists typically fail again and again before their inventions work! Students created a Bobby Dropper, which is a parachute using one piece of paper and a bobby pin. They were able to build and test a few versions to find which worked best.

5th Grade Social Studies

This week in Social Studies, we began our unit on the Civil War. In class today, we started learning about battles that took place at the beginning on the war. Our focus today was on the Battle of Bull Run in Virginia. We recreated the battlefield based on eyewitness accounts and illustrations to put it into perspective for students about how units were organized. This helped them gain understanding about the troop movements and equipment used in the Civil War.

Reminders Reminders

Tardy Bell

The tardy bell will ring at 7:45am. Students must be in their classroom by 7:45am in order to not be tardy. Parents must park and walk their child in if they are tardy.

Early Dismissal

Students will not be allowed to be dismissed from class after 2:00pm without administrator approval. Please plan doctor appointments accordingly.

Free Lunch

Breakfast and Lunch are free for all of our students this year! The cafeteria may sell snacks for extra cost once the year gets going. We will communicate that to you when it gets started.
