School Boot Up Overview

As we get started in a unique year, we have a unique team. We have come together to support an ever-changing system to best support our students. Connecting with all the schools to review their individual needs has been a strategic goal to help build a Technology plan for this year and beyond.

Highlighting security is a priority for the technology department this year. Creating a system that protects our users and their data whether at school or at home will be more important than ever this year.

Creating a SISD Knowledgeable for institutional knowledge will be a priority for this year. Preserving knowledge required to keep the district running no matter what happens in the future will be critical for success.

As we begin a year with unlimited possibilities we will look more and more to our technology as a tool to help us.

Internet Upgrades

Internet across the district increased in bandwidth speed over the summer. With the use of the Bag Grant, we were able to leverage E-Rate to enable better connectivity for our students. Thorne bay is now at 80mbps while outer sites are at 25mpbs.

We are also in the contract year for a wifi refresh. In the background, the SISD team has been working with GCI to perform a Wi-Fi infrastructure upgrade in the coming months.

Thanks to GCI for the great support.

VTC Equipment Upgrade

SKC will be in town this week, 9/14-9/18 doing a refresh on our VTC equipment. Through the RUSS grant, the district has been able to complete a major refresh of equipment.

T&H Partnership and the ASTRIDE Grant

Our school counselor has worked with our partnerships to get 80 new HP Chromebooks for our students. The district will need to purchase Chrome Management Licensing for the devices before mass deployment. This has come at a great point in time to help support at-home learning.

A special thanks to Tlingit and Haida for their support of our students!
