The Nixon Connection
Just Teach. Just Learn.

THE PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
February 2, 2026
Dear Nixon Families,
February has been full of energy and excitement at Nixon! Our scholars have participated in Scholar of the Month celebrations, dress-down days, PBIS parties, Valentine’s Day activities, robotics learning experiences, and ongoing rehearsals for our Black History Month program. Classrooms have been actively engaged in meaningful Black History lessons, discussions, and projects that honor the past while inspiring the future. At the same time, students have been completing assessments and participating in targeted review to strengthen their skills.
While February has certainly been fun and filled with enriching experiences, instruction and learning remain our top priority. With only 16 instructional days left until the ACAP Summative Assessment, there is still important learning ahead, and every day counts. The upcoming weeks will be busy, but they are critical for maintaining focus and momentum. Your continued support with daily attendance, strong routines, and encouragement at home helps ensure that our scholars are prepared and confident. We are grateful for the role you play in helping our scholars finish this season strong.
It’s always a great day to be a Nixon Cougar!

ATTENDANCE UPDATES
Historically, February has been Nixon’s lowest month for attendance, averaging around 85% daily attendance. This year, we are currently at 91%—a 3.56% increase from last year! While we are proud of this growth and grateful for your partnership, we still fell short of our goal of 95% daily attendance during February. With only 16 instructional days remaining until scholars take the ACAP Summative Assessment, attendance matters now more than ever. Each day provides critical instruction, review, and preparation that students need to feel confident and successful.
Consistent attendance allows scholars to take part in the exciting events and celebrations ahead. Because these opportunities are tied to active participation in school, regular attendance is essential. Your commitment to bringing your scholar to school each day helps ensure they don’t miss out on these meaningful experiences.
To celebrate strong commitment this month, scholars with perfect attendance for the month of February will be entered into a raffle to win a gift card. We look forward to recognizing those who show dedication by showing up every day. Thank you for continuing to partner with us to keep attendance strong and help our scholars succeed..
Chronic absenteeism is when a child misses 10% or more of school days (18 days per year). Every day counts, and missing just a few days can make it harder for scholars to keep up. Let’s work together to make sure every scholar is in school, on time, and ready to learn!
Kudos to 4th Grade for having the highest attendance rate so far, with 2nd grade following close behind.
Pre-K families: We need your help ensuring that scholars come to school every day.
