Every Jaguar A Reader

As we rolled the calendar over from 2021 to 2022, our team at Pauline Central spent time reflecting on the first semester and planning for the final 18 weeks of this school year. We reaffirmed our commitment to our Building Goal of Every Jaguar A Reader.

We cannot do this important work without YOU! If your young child is struggling to learn his letters and sounds, or if you older child is struggling to decode words in text, please contact your child's teacher. We want to partner with you to help your child develop a love of reading.

This article is part of A simple, step-by-step tool to help you figure out if the struggles you're seeing might be signs of a learning and thinking difference The process of learning to read isn't easy. When kids struggle with reading, it doesn't mean they're not smart. It also doesn't mean they're lazy.

IMPORTANT Update regarding COVID-19

First, as a friendly reminder, internal COVID-19 data is tracked weekly by school and that data is

entered on an Auburn-Washburn scorecard that is released every Friday. Based on data

entered on the scorecard, masks are strongly encouraged in schools when COVID-19 incidences

are below 5%. When COVID-19 incidences are 5% or above at a school, masks are required

when indoors until the percentage drops below 5% in that school for two consecutive weeks.

We will continue to track, report, and take action on COVID-19 and Test to Learn numbers each week on Friday. Based on the Auburn-Washburn Scorecard this week, masks will be required when indoors at the following schools next week: Auburn, Farley, Indian Hills, Pauline Central, Pauline South, and Wanamaker elementary schools. Masks are strongly encouraged at Jay Shideler, Washburn Rural Middle School, Washburn Rural High School, and Tallgrass.

Please Welcome our new school nurse

Please join me in welcoming Linda Meredith to our Pauline Central Community. Ms. Meredith is our new school nurse, replacing Sarah Follis who relocated with her family to the Manhattan area. Nurse Meredith has a wide breadth of experience in nursing and in the Auburn Washburn District. She has stepped into this position at a challenging time for our school community with the COVID cases surging, but her calm and patient demeanor is a wonderful asset as we continue to battle this virus.

Welcome aboard, Nurse Meredith!

Second Step Resource

Our staff continue to prioritize the social emotional learning for our students. Second Step programs are research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children from Early Learning through Grade 8.

Your child participates in these lessons designed to help students have more positive attitudes toward themselves and others, show more positive social behaviors in school, and have fewer conduct problems. This results in greater school connectedness, which helps keep students safe and out of trouble.

Pauline Schools PTO Needs YOU!

Our PTO meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Everyone who is a parent of a student at Pauline South and Pauline Central is a member of PTO. We encourage anyone who would like to attend or participate in any way to contact our PTO president, Bailee Crawford at crawford_bailee@yahoo.com.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the Pauline South Library. We will begin planning for our Spring Fundraiser and Spring Carnival!
