Senior Scoop!
THE SENIOR SCOOP!
Class of 2027 Information for Seniors & Families
Welcome to The Senior Scoop! As a new addition to the NYOS Secondary Newsletter, this monthly section will highlight senior-specific reminders, resources, and updates to help families stay informed throughout the year.
Senior year brings many exciting opportunities and a lot of important deadlines. From college and career planning to military options, financial aid, scholarships, graduation, and everything in between, there is a lot to keep track of. Each month, The Senior Scoop will feature a few timely tips, important dates, and helpful information to complement the communication you already receive from NYOS.
What's Happening in CCMR
Senior CCMR Kickoff Meeting: On July 31, seniors participated in our first CCMR meeting of the year, where we discussed graduation expectations, postsecondary planning, important timelines, and resources available throughout the year.
Transcript Reviews: Seniors are currently reviewing their transcripts to verify credits, graduation requirements, course history, and personal information. Identifying and correcting any discrepancies now helps ensure a smooth path to graduation.
Senior Homeroom CCMR Meetings: Throughout the year, seniors will participate in targeted homeroom CCMR meetings focused on key milestones and timely topics such as graduation requirements, transcript reviews, college and career planning, financial aid, scholarships, and other postsecondary preparation. These meetings will occur at strategic points during the year to provide information and support when students need it most.
Exploring Every Pathway: CCMR is about preparing students for success after high school, not just college. Throughout the year, students will explore career opportunities, military pathways, apprenticeships, technical education, workforce certifications, and other postsecondary options to help them make informed decisions about their future.
August Senior Tip
The Common Application opened on August 1!
If your senior plans to apply to colleges using the Common App, now is a great time to create or update their account, begin completing their profile and activities sections, review essay prompts, and request letters of recommendation.
Coming Soon:
TSI Testing – Registration is open for students planning to participate in Dual Credit or who need to meet college readiness requirements.
FAFSA/TASFA Family Night (Before Fall Break) – Learn how to prepare for the financial aid process before applications open.
We look forward to sharing a new Senior Scoop each month with updates, reminders, and resources to help make senior year a little less overwhelming and a lot more successful.

📢 TSIA2 Testing Opportunities for Students Interested in Dual Credit
Students and Families,
If your student is interested in taking advantage of Dual Credit opportunities at NYOS in the near future, now is a great time to begin planning for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2). Passing the required sections of the TSIA2 is one of the eligibility requirements for many Austin Community College (ACC) Dual Credit courses.
Registration Information
If your child is interested in taking Dual Credit, please note that the TSIA2 registration form is only available through the student's NYOS Google account. Students must be signed into their NYOS account to access and submit the registration form. Parents are encouraged to review the information with their student, but the registration must be completed using the student's NYOS account.
Additional testing details, including the final testing date, time, and location, will be emailed to registered students approximately one week before each test administration.
If you have any questions about the TSIA2, Dual Credit, or determining if your student is ready to begin earning college credit while in high school, please contact Mrs. Pierce, CCMR Counselor & Dual Credit Liaison.

Principal's Welcome Message:
Celebrating Back-to-School Month at NYOS Secondary
Dear NYOS Secondary Families,
Happy Back-to-School Month!
As we begin another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for choosing NYOS Secondary and for the partnership you bring to our school community. The start of a new school year is filled with opportunities for growth, new friendships, and meaningful learning experiences, and we are excited to share this journey with your students.
At NYOS, we believe that student success is built through strong relationships between home and school. Your encouragement, communication, and support make a tremendous difference in helping our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are grateful for the trust you place in us each day.
Throughout this month, we encourage families to celebrate the excitement of learning by asking your student about their classes, celebrating their accomplishments—big and small—and staying connected with teachers and campus events. Together, we can help every student build confidence, develop resilience, and achieve their goals.
On behalf of our entire NYOS Secondary staff, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to an outstanding school year filled with learning, growth, and success for every Jaguar.
Thank you for being an important part of the NYOS family.
Before the weekend, a few important logistics reminders for our Middle School families, especially those with siblings in Elementary:
🚗 Self Dismissal (SDM) Pickup
- Elementary only allows 8th graders and above to pick up younger siblings at 3:40 PM.
- Any High School sibling (9-12) is also cleared to pick up.
- This year, SDM pickup will take place from the side doors, starting at 3:40 PM.
🚙 Carline Pickup
- MS students may walk through the Elementary building to sit with a sibling at carline.
- Parents should plan to arrive after 3:45 PM, timing their spot in line closer to when MS dismisses.
- When you reach the front, scan the QR code — this will trigger your elementary student to come out to carline.
- SDM procedures have no impact on MS carline pickup.
- Important: Please tell your MS student directly if they're being picked up via Elementary carline, so they know to head that way after dismissal.
- MS studentsbeing picked up in the elementary carline should enter through the side doors of the Elementary building.
HS Families:
🅿️ Senior Parking Lot
- Gates open at 3:50 PM Monday–Thursday and 12:50 PM on Fridays.
- Seniors must park in the Senior Parking Lot using school issued placards.
- Students may not park in the staff parking lots at anytime!
Warmly,
Ms. Edwards

Updates from the District
To better streamline communication and ensure families receive the most accurate and up-to-date information, NYOS will be phasing out the Secondary Facebook account effective July 31, 2026.
Moving forward, all social media updates, announcements, reminders, celebrations, and event information for both campuses will be shared through the NYOS District Facebook and Instagram accounts. While our campus newsletters will remain separate, we are combining our social media presence to reduce duplicate information and provide families with one reliable source for school news.
We encourage all families to follow the NYOS District social media accounts and continue reading campus newsletters to stay informed about important updates, events, and opportunities throughout the school year. Thank you for your support as we work to improve and simplify communication for our community.
Thank you,

Teacher Shout-Outs
Celabrating Our Jags!
The NSF REU program concluded exceptionally well! I had the opportunity to present my research poster on AI, Data Analytics, and Mixed Reality for Smart & Connected Health. Based on our results and the positive feedback from our mentor, our group will most likely be publishing our work as a scientific conference paper.
Here is a photo from the poster presentation to give you a glimpse of the research I had the opportunity to work on throughout the program.
Thank you again for your support and encouragement. I truly appreciate the opportunity and look forward to sharing future updates!
We are so proud of you!
