Principal Message Principal Message

As we enter the month of November, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to each and every one of you. November is traditionally celebrated as Gratitude Month, and it provides us with a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many things we are thankful for in our lives.

Lockwood is an extraordinary place of learning and growth, and it wouldn’t be possible without the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, hardworking students, and the support of parents and community members. I am truly grateful for the sense of unity and collaboration that define our school.

This month, we are going to encourage our students to explore the concept of gratitude. We can help them understand the importance of appreciating the people, opportunities, and experiences that enrich their lives. Practicing gratitude has been shown to improve the overall well-being and fosters a positive mindset, which is essential qualities for success in both school and life.

November always brings a time of change and reflection as watch the leaves fall, the days get shorter, and we begin preparing for the upcoming holiday season. I want to share some exciting updates and important information with you as we continue our journey through the school year.

In partnership,

Sam Ramirez

ID Check at Student Check-Out ID Check at Student Check-Out

Beginning November 1st, we kindly request that all parents and guardians who come to pick up their students present a valid photo ID at the main office. As always, only parents and those on the emergency list are permitted to pick up a student. The ID check will be a part of our routine procedure. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some, but please remember that it is in the best interest of our students’ safety. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Lost and Found Lost and Found

Our lost and found has reached its maximum capacity, and it's important for us to create room for lost items during the coming months. In the spirit of generosity and community support, we have a tradition of donating unclaimed items to local charities and organizations during winter break, ensuring that they reach individuals who require warm clothing during the colder months.

It is our sincere hope that all items will find their way back to their rightful owners. To make this process as smooth as possible, we kindly request your assistance in the following ways:

1. Check the Lost and Found

2. Label Your Belongings

3. Remind Your Students to check the Lost and Found

4. Timely Retrieval by Dec 22nd

Restrictions on Bus Passes Restrictions on Bus Passes

zoom_out_map

The transportation department has implemented restrictions on bus passes due to high bus capacity or near capacity. Specifically, Bus 146 and 170 are not allowing bus passes, and for all other buses, only one pass is allowed per day. Parents are advised to consider alternative transportation arrangements, as it may be challenging to secure a bus pass during this time. This decision is likely to alleviate overcrowding issues and ensure that transportation resources are used efficiently. If you have any questions or concerns, you should reach out to the transportation department for more information and clarification on the new restrictions.

VOLUNTEERS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE VOLUNTEERS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

When volunteers commit to serving at a school, students achieve higher grades, have access to more opportunities, and gain community connections to help them thrive.

November News from the PE Staff

Cross Country Update: Our team wrapped up their season and represented Lockwood well. Thank you runners and parents!

We just finished our throwing and catching unit in PE. Ask your student to show you the T position for throwing. Upcoming this month is our balance unit and the Turkey Trot Triathlon during conference week.

Your student's PE day may be different during conference week, so please be on the lookout from classroom teachers to what day your child has PE to make sure they come prepared for the Triathlon.

As we enter into the rainy season, please remember if you send your student in rain boots, to also send them with a pair of shoes for PE.

Message from Nurse Trina Message from Nurse Trina

Welcome to Fall!

We are seeing a lot of cold symptoms in the Health Room. Please keep your student home if they aren't feeling well in the morning, particularly if you need to give them medication to enable them to come. Children's cold medications last approximately 4 hours, and I have sent several students home when the medications wear off.

Along with colds it's now heading into flu season. Protect yourself and your family and be sure to get both your flu and COVID booster shots. Most insurance plans cover vaccinations at no cost. If you aren't covered by insurance and need assistance, please reach out. A reminder that most insurance companies will also cover a set number of COVID tests for home. Good to have on hand with the upcoming respiratory season.

Finally, if your student is sent home in clothing from the Health Room, please make sure to launder it and return as soon as possible. We have had recent incidences where we didn't have clothing for students that desperately needed them.
