KMS WEEKLY UPDATE

Dear KMS Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to remind you of our commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for all students. With this in mind, please be aware that students with failing grades or office referrals for behavior may be ineligible to participate in upcoming events including but not limited to field trips, class night, and the 8th grade dance. It is essential for students to meet academic and behavioral expectations to fully engage in these celebratory activities.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of academic achievement and positive behavior with your child as we approach the end of the school year.
Sincerely,
Geoff Smith, Principal
Rena Rankin, Assistant Principal

RETURN IPADS: MAY 20

To ensure a smooth process, we ask students to back up their iPads on OneDrive and submit all digital assignments prior to this date.
Please note the following guidelines:
- Students returning to KIBSD next year will only turn in their iPad.
- Students not returning to KIBSD next year will return both their iPad, Logi pen, charging block, and charging cord.
Additionally, rising 8th graders planning to take Algebra 1 and students planning to take summer CTE courses will be able to retrieve their iPads on June 3rd from Kodiak High School.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office.
MRS. NORTON'S 8TH GRADE US HISTORY CLASS - CITIZENSHIP PROJECT
The inaugural year of the 8th grade Citizenship Project was a huge success! 8th grade students completed an amazing 3,786.5 volunteer hours. They volunteered their time in the school, cleaning, serving food, through Student Government, the Yearbook, and other activities that contributed to the culture of KMS. Others volunteered in the community at the Animal Shelter, Brother Francis Shelter, the Fil-Am association, their churches, babysitting, walking dogs, picking up garbage, working on boats and more.
One student wrote:
“During my time volunteering around Kodiak, I learned three major things. People really do appreciate help, better time management, and that I really do need to commit to things if I want to get them done. The citizenship project held many different lessons that I hadn’t expected, and I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would.”
I believe students learned that they could contribute to their community and as citizens it is our responsibility to contribute.
Thank you, parents/guardians, for supporting your students as they completed this project. It was a job well done!

KIBSD Schools are excited to welcome our visitors and volunteers to the different schools.
If you have not visited one of our schools before or have been coming for a long time, we have made some minor changes to standardize our process throughout the schools.
There will now be a sign-in binder you will be asked to sign, along with the name tag you are used to wearing. We ask for your patience, if we have not seen you before, you will be asked to present an ID when you sign in.
All non-KIBSD employees in the buildings will be asked to use staff facilities, not the student washrooms.
We also want to say good-bye when you leave so we are asking everyone to stop by the office to sign out.
ATTENDANCE LINE:
Please use this option to let us know that your child is going to be absent, late, or if you're picking them up early. This is OPTION 1 when calling the school at 907-486-7460.
We check the voicemails every hour.
CHECKING STUDENTS OUT:
Please call in the morning to let us know that you will be checking your student out early. Press the attendance line (OPTION 1) to leave a message. A pass will be given to your student so they can be ready when you arrive. You will come to the front entrance, ring the bell, and sign them out in the office.
DROPPING OFF LUNCH/ITEMS TO STUDENTS:
Please be sure to drop off lunch to students PRIOR to their lunch time.
When dropping off any items to students, please do so BEFORE the class they need it, and we will call them to the front office during passing period.
