Hunter Headlines
December 6th, 2020 Edition
A Message from Mrs. Mullins
By now you have all read the email from Superintendent Conway, outlining the GSD plan for learning from December 7th to January 11th.
I am certain our timeline, and two week return to school, face to face, affects each of your households differently. While I can't begin to understand each and every situation, I want to make sure I celebrate with those of you excited about it and trouble-shoot with those of you struggling with it. While the past few week away from the building brought different challenges, students, teachers and families did an awesome job, and their is much to be celebrated.
At Hunter, we are committed to continuing to do the best we can for our students. We will work to make this a great two weeks before heading into the winter break.
All of our previous mitigation measures are still in place, and we will work to support our students as they transition back from 3 weeks of full remote learning.
Please also take a few minutes to review the protocols that we have been following since the beginning of the school year. These are important factors that will help us be successful the next two weeks, and beyond.
Close Contact and Positive COVID Cases
Please continue to update us if your child is in close contact with a positive COVID case or if your child tests positive for COVID.
Daily Health Screener
We know that we are in the cold and flu season in addition to concerns about COVID-19. It is important that every family continue to do the following: complete the daily health screener on your child, keep your child home if they have symptoms, and keep your child home if they are awaiting test results for COVID-19. We know that not everything is COVID-19 and we are relying on our students to also limit their potential exposure (parties, celebrations, events) as much as possible while we limit their exposure in school.
Students Ill at School
Students becoming ill while at school have been addressed throughout this year. However, because our new procedures and guidelines could cause a great burden on a family, we wanted to revisit the process. Students often report they do not feel well while at school. In previous years, we have tried to encourage our students to stay at school if they didn't appear ill while also notifying our families of the situation. This year, we will not be able to work through minor symptoms with students and allow them to stay at school. As Elementary educators, we know that changes in a student’s schedule (like a substitute teacher), an online writing assignment, or a math test can cause emotions that make a child feel uncomfortable, and they may report being sick. Please have conversations with your child at home about the importance of reporting what is making them nervous or anxious, so we can work through that as a team. Any student or staff member who becomes ill at school and/or reports they are ill at school must be sent home immediately.
Students and staff may not return to school until they have a doctor’s note that states their symptoms were not COVID-19 related and that their illness was a different diagnosis.
These processes also make it even more important for families to have updated contact information in their Parent Portal and multiple emergency contacts. Students will not be allowed to wait until the end of the school day to be picked up from school when they are ill or are reporting being ill. Please ensure you have multiple emergency plans in place for your child.
Devices, Workbooks, and Learning Materials
Please make sure that your child brings their devices, chargers, math books, and any other important learning materials with them to school on Monday when they return.
Masks
ALL students and staff must wear masks in our school. Children will not be permitted to ride the school bus or enter our doors if they are not wearing a mask. Parents must also wear masks when they are out of their vehicles picking up their child from school. We are also continuing to encourage all students to have an extra mask with them in their backpacks.
Snowpile 2020
Each year, Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation (CHMFoundation) sponsors the SNOWPILE program at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. SNOWPILE allows parents of hospitalized patients to “shop” for presents for their child and his or her siblings at the holidays. Thanks to many generous corporate and individual donors, these parents can experience unexpected holiday joy without having to leave their sick child’s bedside.
This year is no different! Lily is working hard again to collect toys or monetary donations for children (newborn to 18 years old) who must spend Christmas time at the hospital. All donations will be accepted until December 10, 2020 and can be dropped off to your classroom teacher or the main office with Mrs. Mullins or Mrs. Clark.
Lily's family is also accepting donations to their house and have given us permission to share the drop-off address which is: 29301 Juniper Brownstown
