A Message from Dr. DeRosa...

November 2024

Dear WHS Friends and Families,

It has been a busy and productive month! As you may know, one of our district’s Strategic Plan goals for the past several years has centered on partnerships. There are so many amazing long-standing relationships that we have cultivated with outside organizations such as our Home School Association, the Rutgers Master Gardeners, and the Whitehouse Station Fire Company to name just a few.

We are always looking for new partners in order to enhance the learning experiences of our students. In light of this, last Spring, we began a partnership with One Voice of Hunterdon County. The mission of this prevention agency is to work with the community to implement drug and alcohol prevention strategies that protect our youth. One Voice is trying to educate the community about the opioid and fentanyl epidemic in an effort to help our children.

As we educate our primary school students, our approach is more age-appropriate. We discuss responsible decision-making. Each year, we participate in the National Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) awareness campaign called Red Ribbon Week. During this time, our school counselor, Ms. Morabito, distributes red ribbons and pledge sheets to students. We discuss the importance of making healthy choices while respecting our bodies and minds. This year, we were pleased to be joined by Mrs. Carolanne Sherwood from One Voice. She addressed the students at our assembly and provided each child with a pencil and a sticker. Cubby was also in attendance and had an opportunity to introduce us to the mascot from One Voice. Pictured below is Mrs. Sherwood and Cubby with "Owl-bert", the owl who makes wise choices!

Warmly,

Dr. Ann T. DeRosa

🎨Welcome to the NEW Art Room! 🎨Welcome to the NEW Art Room!

Our Cubs of Character are very excited for our newly-renovated Art Room! In our new space, little artists have been busy working on various Fall projects. Some examples include oil pastel owls, pumpkins, leaves and spiderwebs. Be on the lookout for these seasonal projects as they come home with your children. Don’t forget to ask your child about his or her favorite part of the new Art Room. Happy Fall!

🚒Fire Safety Assembly 🚒Fire Safety Assembly

On October 11, 2024, members of our local fire department and Sparky, the mascot, visited WHS to teach our students about fire safety. They showed the children the uniform & equipment worn by the firefighters, spoke about how important fire alarms are, and had the students think about creating a meeting place with their families. As shown below, teachers, Mr. Grant & Ms. Shea, were chosen to try on the gear. Thank you, Whitehouse Station Fire Company! We truly appreciate you!

Gratitude Month

We are teaching the children about being grateful for the people and things in their lives. This is especially important as Thanksgiving approaches! Please partner with us and encourage your children to continue to show good character as they earn your permission to shade in pieces of their bucket-filler "Gratitude" puzzle!

Service Project

Please join our efforts as we collect personal items for Readington Starfish. See below for details...
