October Greetings, Evergreen Families! October Greetings, Evergreen Families!

As we move into October and the second month of the school year, it is exciting to reflect on the strong start the our students and staff accomplished. With six weeks now behind us, our school community has settled into a productive rhythm of teaching and learning. Following the completion of our fall diagnostic assessments in early September, we have been able to maintain consistent schedules, routines, and expectations across our Evergreen campus. Many classes are now approaching their first unit exams, and for many students, homework assignments and longer-term projects are becoming a regular part of their academic experience.

This past week, we launched a new focus during our Thursday advisory period, known as Den Time, centered on strengthening students' organizational skills and academic habits. Students are using a variety of tools to support their success, including a structured weekly reflection process and the StudentVUE application. These resources help students organize and prioritize their work, monitor their progress, and develop greater ownership of their learning. We are also grateful for the many families who regularly utilize ParentVUE to stay informed and support their student's academic journey. While students may not always recognize the immediate value of daily check-ins and planning routines, these consistent habits play an important role in helping our Timberwolves stay organized, manage responsibilities, and build skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.

Below, you will find a variety of important updates and opportunities for the month of October. Thank you for taking the time to read through this information and for your continued partnership and support as we move through another exciting month of learning and growth together.

With Gratitude,

Alex, Medgar, & Tyler

October Student Surveys: October Student Surveys:

For whatever reason, October is the month of surveys as this month, our students will be participating in two opportunities that will help guide decisions related to our school climate, student support efforts, academic opportunities, and social-emotional well-being. Below is the schedule for the surveys taking place this month, followed by additional information about both surveys.

October Student Survey Schedule

  • October 8th: Fall Student Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey
  • Week of October 26th: Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) Student Perceptions Survey

Fall Student SEL Survey (October 8th): This year, students will complete the Panorama Social and Emotional Learning Survey during Den Time on Thursday, October 8. Most students will finish the survey in approximately 20 minutes.

The feedback students provide helps our staff identify strengths, areas for growth, and opportunities to better support the academic, social, and emotional needs of our Timberwolves. Families interested in learning more about the Fall Student SEL Survey can click here for additional information.

Equal Opportunity Schools Student Perceptions Survey (Week of October 26th): We are excited to begin our third year of partnership with Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to rigorous coursework and ensuring that every student feels connected, supported, and challenged. As part of this partnership, students will participate in the EOS Student Perceptions Survey during Den Time beginning the week of October 26th. The survey provides our staff with valuable insight into students' goals, interests, experiences, and perceptions of their school environment.

Students will be asked about:

  • Career interests and aspirations
  • Educational goals and future plans
  • Subject areas they enjoy or would like to explore further
  • Trusted adults and support systems within our school

Survey responses help create student-specific Insight Cards, which provide our staff with meaningful information that can strengthen relationships, improve supports, and connect students with opportunities that align with their interests and goals. These insights play an important role in helping us foster a sense of belonging and ensuring that every student has access to the opportunities and support they need to thrive.

Fall Conferences Coming in Early November Fall Conferences Coming in Early November

Each fall, our Everett Public Schools designate two non-school days for Family-Teacher Conferences. This year, conferences will be held on Monday, November 2nd and Tuesday, November 3rd. Students will not attend school on either day, allowing families and staff dedicated time to connect, discuss student progress, and strengthen the home-school partnership.

School will resume for students on Wednesday, November 4th. Please note that the week will conclude with a 11:35am early dismissal on Friday, November 6th.

Our conference format is intentionally designed to provide both flexibility and meaningful opportunities for engagement (no sign-ups needed). During the two conference days, we will offer a variety of times/windows including mornings, afternoons, and Tuesday evening. For specifics, please view our schedule below. The open format of our conferences purposefully allows families to meet with all of their child's teachers in a single visit, no appointment necessary. However, some waiting is to be expected, especially during busier sessions.

Our daytime conferences (7:30am to 10:30am and 10:10pm to 2:05pm) will occur in each teacher's classroom. Our Tuesday evening conferences (11/3 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm) will occur in our gyms and commons as we expect a busier volume of conferences that evening. Teachers will be seated at tables in the gyms/commons and avaliable to conference.

Please know that no sign-up is needed for middle school conferences. Rather, this is an open style conference format that allows you to meet with several teachers in one visit. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Fall conferences and appreciate/value your time in meeting with our teaching team.

Our Evergreen ASB and Leadership classes are planning an upcoming event, specific for our sixth graders. Our first-ever Sixth Grade Hang event will take place immediately after school on Thursday, October 15th in our Evergreen Commons.

This fun event will include games, activities, and contests. Snacks will also be avaliable for purchase. Students that normally travel home by bus can do so on our later, 3:15pm activity bus. We understand that many of our sixth graders have after school obligations but for any/all interested, we'd love to have them at next week's Sixth Grade Hang event.

Family members who are active in their school community, such as PTSA members, volunteers, coaches, or other parent leaders, are encouraged to participate, and prior involvement is not required. Council members will also have opportunities to participate on occasional focus groups or special projects throughout the year.
