Unique Opportunity to Join Minnesota’s Electric School Bus Application - Act Now
Right now there is a unique opportunity for your school district to join a Minnesota application for electric school buses to serve your students. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will be submitting an application to the EPA program, Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles on behalf of schools in the EPA's priority counties. Are you a school in Anoka, Blue Earth, Dakota, Hennepin, Kandiyohi, or Ramsey county? If so, you are eligible to join the application. If Minnesota is awarded the EPA will fund up to $280,000 for the electric school bus and charger and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will leverage its Volkswagen Settlement funds to cover the rest of the costs so your school can receive an electric bus and charger at little to no cost to you.
Specific details:
If your school owns its buses you must have or be able to obtain a 2009 or older diesel bus that you agree to scrap should the application be awarded.
If your school contracts out your bus service you must work with your bus contractor to get them to agree to scrap a 2009 or older diesel bus should the application be awarded. Additionally, there are options to then transfer the money to the bus contractor to purchase the bus to be used for your school's routes.
If you're interested please reach out to lexie.lyng@state.mn.us as soon as possible for more information and next steps.
