On Tuesday, March 31, Samantha Ross and Zakiyah Warren were inducted into the PCSVA Chapter of National Honor Society at Westwood Baptist Church. Being chosen for National Honor Society means that you have at least a 3.0 GPA, have had no major disciplinary issues while a student at PCSVA, and have shown characteristics such as a commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, and good character. Membership, however, is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in your selection. We are very proud of Samantha and Zakiyah! Their hard work and dedication to learning is commendable!

Anxiety affects nearly 1 in 3 teens — and the signs aren't always obvious. Mood changes, trouble sleeping, avoidance, and physical complaints like headaches or stomachaches can all point to something deeper.

This month, Daybreak Health and Person County Schools are sharing a short, clinician-led resource on how to recognize anxiety in teens and strategies to help them manage it — including breathing techniques, grounding exercises, and how to open the conversation without dismissing what they're feeling.

PCS Attendance Initiative Every Minute Counts! PCS Attendance Initiative Every Minute Counts!

User uploaded image

Every Minute Counts! Attendance matters now more than ever. Chronic absenteeism—missing 10% or more of the school year, regardless of the reason—puts students at academic and social risk. Research shows that even in early grades, frequent absences can make it hard to read on grade level, stay engaged, and ultimately graduate on time.

Our district, like many others nationwide, has seen an increase in chronic absences since the pandemic. As partners in education, we ask families to help us prioritize attendance by scheduling appointments outside of school hours, keeping routines consistent, and reaching out when challenges arise.

Together, we can ensure every child is present, supported, and ready to succeed—because every minute truly counts.

NCSSM Connect Calendar

We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. Courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.

Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.

While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
