🍎Dear Cielo Vista Parents and Families,

As we completed our first two weeks of school, I want to thank you for helping make the start of the school year such a smooth and successful one. We greatly appreciate your continued support, partnership, and commitment to your child's education.🏫

🎉We also have an exciting achievement to celebrate together. Cielo Vista Elementary has once again earned an A Rating earning four distinctions, marking our second consecutive year as an A-rated campus! This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our entire school community!💛🖤

💯I would like to thank our outstanding Cielo Vista teachers for their commitment to providing rigorous, high-quality instruction each day. I also want to recognize our students for their hard work, positive attitudes, and determination to learn and grow. Most importantly, this success would not be possible without the unwavering support of our parents and families.

As we continue through the 2026-2027 school year, let's keep this momentum going. We encourage all students to come to school every day ready to learn, engaged in their education, and prepared to achieve their very best.💛🖤

👋Friendly Reminder: Student drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. We have noticed that several students are arriving and waiting outside before the doors open. For student safety, supervision does not begin until 7:30 a.m. We kindly ask that you do not drop off your child prior to this time.

If you are interested in dropping off your child before 7:30 a.m., please contact Jessica Martinez for more information about our Extended Day Learning Program for available morning care options.

Thank you for being an essential part of our Cielo Vista family. We look forward to another outstanding year of excellence, achievement, and growth. 💛🖤

90% Attendance Rule/What it means for the 2026-2027 school year.

El Paso ISD 90% attendance requirement will be in effect for the 2026-27 school year.

Students must attend at least 90% of the school days or class periods in order to receive course credit or a final grade, as required by Texas law.

For Elementary students, missing more than 17 days during a typical school year may affect whether they automatically can earn credit or a final grade.

In middle and high school, attendance is tracked by individual class periods each semester, so repeatedly missing the same class can become an issue even if a student attends school the rest of the day. In middle school, missing a class more than 8 times in the Fall semester or more than 9 times in spring semester will result in loss of credit. In high school as students are on an A/B schedule, missing a class more than 4 times in a semester will result in loss of credit.

If you have any questions or for further information please contact your campus.

📚Dear Bobcat Families,

Just 15-20 minutes of reading each day can make a big difference in your child's learning! Set aside time after school or before bed to read together, take turns reading pages, or have your child tell you about the story. Ask them questions about what they read, such as:

📘 What did it mean when he/she/they said…

📗How do you think that character felt when…? What made you think that?

📕What did the author mean by…? What made you think that?

📙The setting is important to the story because… What made you think that?

📘Asking your child to explain their thinking supports the questioning we do at school to help support their reading and writing.

For our youngest readers, talking about pictures and asking questions helps build important language skills.

📚Remember: Every book, story, and conversation counts!

Happy Reading!

What's happening in Math? Week of August 17-21

Kindergarten

🔹 Students are learning to represent and decompose numbers 3-5 in different ways while building strong number sense through counting, objects, and pictures.
🏠 Parent Tip: Ask your child, "How many ways can we make 5?" and use everyday objects to show different number combinations.

1st Grade

🔹 Students are building fluency with addition and subtraction within 10 while solving word problems using strategies, models, and equations.
🏠 Parent Tip: Create simple word problems during daily routines and encourage your child to explain how they found the answer.

2nd Grade

🔹 Students are strengthening addition and subtraction skills within 100, applying place value strategies, and solving word problems with multiple representations.
🏠 Parent Tip: Practice adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and have your child explain their thinking using words or drawings.

3rd Grade

🔹 Students are developing place value understanding through 100,000 by comparing, ordering, and rounding whole numbers.
🏠 Parent Tip: Have your child read, compare, and round numbers they encounter in everyday situations such as prices, sports scores, or addresses.

4th Grade

🔹 Students are solving multi-step word problems using the standard subtraction algorithm and estimation to check the reasonableness of solutions.
🏠 Parent Tip: Encourage your child to estimate before solving and explain how they know their answer makes sense.

5th Grade

🔹 Students are multiplying and dividing decimals by one-digit whole numbers while using place value understanding, models, and estimation strategies.
🏠 Parent Tip: Use money-related situations at home to practice decimal operations and ask your child to estimate before solving.

🏠 Family Science Connection

This week, August 17-21, in science, students are developing the habits of scientists by asking questions, making observations, following safety procedures, and learning how science helps solve problems. You can support science learning at home by encouraging curiosity, discussing observations, and allowing children to explain their thinking using evidence from their own experiences.
