Valley View Middle School - Principal's Message Valley View Middle School - Principal's Message

Hello Valley View Families!

We’re officially back in action at Valley View Middle, and it’s already shaping up to be an exciting year! We’re especially thrilled to share that our roof project is finally complete - a huge thank you to everyone who worked hard behind the scenes to get us ready for the year ahead.

We’re so excited to welcome our students back on Wednesday, August 6th and kick off a year full of learning, connection, and growth!

As we dive into the first days of school, here are a few key things to know:

  • This Week Is a Black Week! That means that when students start this Wednesday, they will begin their day in 1st period at 8:00 am, and follow their classes in order through 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods. Next Monday, August 11th, we’ll switch to Gold Week, where students start in 7th period and work backward through their schedule. We’ll continue to rotate weeks like this throughout the year.
  • Drop-Off, Pick-Up & Parking Tips: Our campus gates open at 7:30 am, and school dismisses daily at 2:15 pm. Students should be off campus by 2:45 pm, unless they are with a staff member. Please follow posted signs for drop-off and pick-up, and be mindful that the YMCA has requested we avoid using their front lot so their members can access their facilities safely.
  • Consider Walking or Biking: Parking is limited, so if your student is able to walk or bike to school, that’s a great option to help reduce traffic. If you do park in nearby neighborhoods, please be respectful of our neighbors and their space.
  • Meals Are Free Again This Year! Every student is eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch every day. Breakfast is served before school (7:30–7:45 am) and again during break (10:23 am). Lunch is served from 12:07–12:37 pm in the MUR.
  • Schedule Change Requests: If your student notices a mistake in their schedule (like a missing class or a course they’ve already completed), they should complete a Schedule Change Request Form using their MDUSD Google account. While we can’t guarantee every request will be granted, we’ll do our best to fix true errors.
  • Chromebooks & Textbooks: Students should bring their charged Chromebooks to school daily. Most of our classes use "consumable" textbooks which students will receive from their teachers over the course of the coming weeks. A "consumable" textbook is a type of textbook that students are allowed to write in, highlight, or tear pages out of as part of their learning. Unlike traditional textbooks that get reused year after year, consumables are meant for individual student use for just one school year. At the end of the year, they aren’t returned - students can keep them or recycle them.
  • Student Handbook: Please take a moment to review the VVMS Student Handbook for school-wide expectations. And don’t forget - our school website is a great place to check for ongoing updates, news, and resources throughout the year.
  • Important Links: Looking for our bell schedule, the handbook, website, or other key information? Scroll down to the "Important Links" section below!

I’m so grateful to be starting this year with such a strong and supportive school community. Thank you for your partnership - we’re going to make it a fantastic year together!

Warmly,

Ms. Jamie Keith

Principal, Valley View Middle School
