BFA Preschool April 9

April 9, 2026
A Note from Preschool Director, Mrs. Hafner
If you haven’t quite caught the spring fever yet, this past week—and the beautiful forecast ahead—will surely do the trick! I hope you’re able to spend some time outdoors enjoying the blooming trees, fresh flowers, and all the beauty this season brings. It truly is such a special time of year.
Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as we welcomed a family of caterpillars! The children are fully engaged in observing their journey and are captivated by the fascinating process of metamorphosis. In Pre-K, students will begin diving deeper into the complex life cycles of these incredible creatures, eagerly anticipating the magical transformation into butterflies.
We are so excited to continue receiving your parent surveys—thank you to those who have already shared their feedback! The children are especially looking forward to celebrating with a popsicle party when 80% of our surveys have been completed, and your input helps us grow and enhance the preschool experience for all.
Wishing you a wonderful and refreshing weekend!

SEM (Science, Engineering, Math) Spotlight
We focused on measurement this week, exploring tools for length and weight; such as rulers, tape measures, and scales. Students enjoyed experimenting with scales to estimate weight. We also explored capacity, using containers to compare volume with terms like "full," "empty," and "more/less."
Try This At Home:
Help measure your child with household items. Have your child lie on the floor and use blue tape to mark their height from head to toe. Then line up objects from end to end along the tape. You can use items like shoes, blocks or even crayons for measuring. This helps them practice measuring and counting.
Sending you “yards” of joy,
Mrs. Amy
Social & Emotional Learning
☀️Preschool Threes: Making Friends😊💛
Our Preschool 3s have been busy building friendships and learning how to make new friends 😊.
Through songs, stories, and hands-on activities, we explored fun and simple ways to invite others to play and include everyone 🤗.
We enjoyed several engaging stories this week 📚. Bear’s New Friend helped us see how friendships can grow when we welcome someone new 🐻. In Strictly NO Elephants, we learned about inclusion and making sure everyone feels like they belong 🐘💕. We also had fun with Humpty Dumpty, using rhymes and imagination while talking about friendship and trying new things together 🎶.
Through our discussions, we talked about being a good friend—asking others to play, sharing ideas, and making sure no one feels left out 💛. The children loved thinking about what they would play with a new friend and practicing those social skills together 🎲. We are so proud of their growing confidence as they learn to connect, include, and build meaningful friendships!
🌟 Pre-K: Being Thoughtful Friends🧠 💭
Our Pre-K friends have been focusing on how to join others in play and become thoughtful, kind friends 💛. Through puppets, stories, and meaningful discussions, we explored what it looks like to notice what others are playing and how to ask, “Can I play too?” or offer a fun idea to join in 🎭.
We brought these skills to life with several wonderful stories 📚. Charlie the Caterpillar helped us understand that true friendship is about kindness and accepting others for who they are 🦋. In Bad Apple, we talked about standing up for our friends and showing loyalty, even when it’s not easy 🍎. Meesha Makes Friends showed us how sharing our unique talents can help us build real friendships 🎨.
We practiced using our words and confidence—just like Jace and Allison—to find ways to be included and invite others into play 🤝. We also talked about the importance of being kind (not braggy!) and making sure everyone feels welcome and valued when we play together 🌈. It has been so special to watch the children grow in their confidence and friendships this week!

BFA's Guiding Principles
Mission:
Our mission is to create young adults with character like America's founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged.
Vision:
Our students will excel academically through a challenging, sequenced curriculum that emphasizes math, science, the arts, and literacy. We will be a data-driven institution, focusing on individual students. Our students, teachers, parents, staff, and leaders will be held accountable for the success of our school. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering social emotional development, character, sports, and nature.
13 Virtues:
Temperance, Silence, Order, Resolution, Frugality, Industry, Sincerity, Justice, Moderation, Cleanliness, Tranquility, Purity and Humility.
