A Prayer Practice for All Ages- The Ignatian Examen A Prayer Practice for All Ages- The Ignatian Examen

This month at Abigal Circle (our young adult women's circle) we learned about the Daily Examen! I mentioned that I found this to be a good practice to use with children! So decided to share it again!

Here is Traci Smith's telling of the Ignatian Examen!

The Ignatian Examen is a way of praying that has been practiced for centuries. Ignatius, one of the early church patriarchs, proposed the Examen as a way of reflecting on one's day and growing closer to God. This variation is modified for families as an activity that can be done in the car or at dinnertime. Instead of being done individually in silence, it is done out loud.

Each family member takes turns answering the following 3 questions:

1. What are a few memorable things that happened today?

2. When was the time you saw or felt close to God today, or saw God at work today?

3. When was a time when you felt farthest away from God today, or felt that you missed an opportunity to share God's love?

Everyone should listen to each other without interrupting!

February is Black History Month!

This month's children's library features are two non-fiction books by Vashti Harrison. Little Legends: Exception Men in Black History and Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History contain one-page biographies for notable historical figures.

These books highlight well known and less discussed historical figures that can spark interest in learning for all ages. The biographies are short enough to read in a few minutes and are accompanied by an illustration that honors the work of its subject.

I have these books on the shelf above the kids access shelf because they do not fit well in there! Feel free to check one out! Happy learning! :)
