Superintendent's Message

JEFCOED Family,

Happy October! Hard to believe but the first nine weeks ends next Friday, October 10th. Parents, you can be looking for report cards to go out on October 20th. I wanted to call your attention to a couple of other things on our calendar. First, there is an E-Learning Day scheduled for Monday October 13th and our Fall Holiday is scheduled for Friday October 24th. Students will not report to campuses those days. In addition, our Opportunity Day for our high schools is Tuesday, October 21st. High School parents, your principal should have communicated to you which students need to come to campus on that day.

We’ve obviously got a lot happening right now. Today I had the honor of meeting with our Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council for the first time this year. We have representatives from every elementary, middle, and high school that attend. It’s an opportunity to let the students know about some things happening in the district, but it also gives them a chance to voice concerns or ask questions. Meeting days are some of my favorite days!

We just wrapped up Attendance Awareness Month. Thanks to our students, parents, teachers, and staff for making an extra effort to get to school on time, every day. Also in September, we had a very special visitor on one of our campuses. Governor Kay Ivey stopped by Pleasant Grove Elementary. The assembly that the school put together was great, and I know the Governor enjoyed her time visiting Jefferson County.

Finally, October begins National Principal Month. Be sure to take a moment and thank your principal when you see them. I can tell you from personal experience it is an extremely hard job. We are blessed in Jefferson County to have some of the most experienced and dedicated administrators in the state.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy the fall and all the fun activities that come with it!

Sincerely,

Dr. Gonsoulin
