Survey Says! Celebrating Academic Support Successes
Dear SJHS Families,
Last week, I highlighted one of the areas families identified as an opportunity for improvement. This week, I am excited to share some of the strengths our families noted in our annual Title I Parent Survey—specifically in the category of Student Learning, Academic Support, Access to Resources, and Title I Services. This category reflects how well our school supports students through interventions, specialized services, and additional learning opportunities designed to help every student grow.
Among the SJHS students who have participated in these interventions and supports, the following percent of parents rated them as effective or highly effective:
Reading Intervention Lab — 93%
Math Intervention Lab — 89%
Special Education / 504 Services — 84%
Credit Recovery — 100%
Friday School — 93%
- (and 99% of respondents said their student has attended Friday School)
These results reflect the dedication of our teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to provide meaningful, individualized help to students!
Spotlight on Friday School
One of the most celebrated supports in the survey was Friday School, which continues to be a powerful tool for reteaching, enrichment, and keeping students on track. As described on our website, Friday School provides structured time for students to work directly with teachers or our academic counselor, to catch up on missing assignments, to prepare for tests, or to participate in enrichment activities. While some students are specifically invited based on academic need, any student is welcome to attend, as long as they are using the time productively with a teacher in a classroom or the counseling office.
Teachers recommend students each week using a shared form, and parents/guardians receive a Thursday afternoon message if their student has been invited. Students who have missed school during the week are also expected to attend, ensuring they don’t fall behind. Many students choose to come voluntarily because they know the time is valuable and the support is immediate.
What’s Next: A New Tool to Support Families
To make Friday School even more transparent and accessible, we are working to implement a new digital tool called Flex. Flex will allow students and parents to see exactly which teacher has requested their student for Friday School and for which class. Our goal is to begin using Flex as early as next Friday (fingers crossed). Once we have it up and running, we will send out more information to help all students and their families utilize this tool.
Whether a student is invited or not, Friday School remains open to all students who want help, need time to catch up, or simply want to strengthen their learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for celebrating the great work happening at SJHS. Our students are most successful when we work together.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Mo

Sprinting to the Finish Line!
As we wrap up the final week of April, it’s hard to believe we have reached the home stretch. With just one month of school left, the finish line is officially in sight!
While it is tempting to "spring into summer" mode a little early, this final month is often the most critical for your student’s academic success. We want to encourage everyone to keep that momentum going and finish strong.
Why Every Day Still Counts:
Final Projects & Assessments: Many end-of-year grades are determined by cumulative projects and final exams that take place during these last few weeks.
Closing Learning Gaps: Teachers are busy tying up loose ends and ensuring students have the foundational knowledge they need for the next grade level.
End-of-Year Traditions: From field trips to awards ceremonies, we don't want anyone to miss out on the celebrations that make the end of the year so special!
A Gentle Reminder on Consistency
It’s easy to let attendance slide when the weather gets nicer, but consistency is key. Let’s work together to minimize "senioritis" (at any grade level!) and ensure every student is present, engaged, and ready to learn until the very last bell rings.
Let’s make this final month our best one yet!
Parents/Guardians/Community Members: If you would like to help or donate rewards to our students for good or improved attendance, please fill out the form below.
